Independent thermal roof surveys in Ifold

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Ifold

Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, a strong wind or heavy cloud can make the images less clear. We talk through the forecast as you book, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. We’re often asked to look into water getting in at parapets and stacks and water that travels before it shows, across insulated roof spaces, loft conversions and flat roofs.

Villages like Ifold frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. High wind or heavy rain stops a small drone flying, and calm conditions also suit thermal imaging best. The visit is planned around the forecast, along with the journey and access. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Ifold: your questions answered

How do I find out if my home in Ifold is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Do you cover smaller places like Ifold?

Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

What’s the best way to book?

Simply ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.

Can you survey at the weekend?

Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it is applicable. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID and fly a drone under 250g, and every flight depends on the airspace and the weather.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. What it shows depends on the weather and the roof. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Mention it when you contact us and we’ll plan the survey around it.

The survey, step by step

The aim of the visit is simple: to see as much of the roof as can safely be seen and record it clearly. Notes and photographs go into the written report. The visit typically takes an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. In a hamlet or village like Ifold, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
  5. You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Clear the way to the loft hatch

Book a survey

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or email us when you’re ready.

Checking the roof from the ground

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

What we can’t see

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Proving moisture from the images alone
  • An energy rating for the building
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

If you’re not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.

What we check

  • Commercial roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Height and safe access
  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. The price is confirmed before booking.

What we need to know

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

For a price for thermal roof surveys in Ifold, call 07833 053749 or send us an email. The address, the type of property and what you’d like to know help us price the survey accurately.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Ifold

For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. Reports are emailed, so they’re easy to pass on.

Why get it checked now?

For buyers, a thermal survey adds detail that a visual inspection can’t give. Hidden problems found before exchange can be raised with the seller or agent. Older cottages and farmhouses around Ifold can have roof timbers that have been there a very long time, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.

Every price we give includes VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £400, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What you get with us

  • PI and public liability insurance
  • An independent view of the roof
  • 5,000+ surveys completed
  • Plain-English reports with photos

Drones, thermal imaging and Ifold roofs

If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that is where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

If you look after a building such as Loxwood Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. For an older house near a landmark like St John the Baptist, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.

Ifold is about 9 miles west of Horsham, in West Sussex. Bookings from Ifold are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Our West Sussex coverage includes Ifold and the places around it. Guildford is in our area too.
