FAQs for Ifold
Will you come out to Ifold?
Yes. Ifold is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Do you cover Ifold?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Ifold as anywhere else.
Are you insured?
Every survey is covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, and details are available on request.
What will the report tell me?
It works through the roof part by part, in writing and with photos, and ends with what we recommend. The most urgent items are made clear.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.
What do I do with the report?
You receive the written report by email, with photos and recommendations. You can use it to talk to a seller, an insurer, a roofer or a managing agent, whichever applies.
How much time does the visit need?
A visit typically takes an hour or two at a typical home, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. We will give you an idea when booking.
Gutter survey in Ifold: what you get
We look at the rainwater system above ground level: gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows. It isn’t a CCTV drain survey, so we can’t see inside underground pipes. If the problem looks like a blocked or broken drain below ground, we’ll say so in the report, so you can get the drains checked separately. Problems above ground, from split hoppers to leaking downpipes, are photographed and noted. If you’ve noticed joints that drip after rain and fascia boards damaged by overflowing water, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on valley gutters, downpipes and outlets and hoppers alike.
Somewhere as small as Ifold, homes are often older cottages and farmhouses, with outbuildings and some newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on everything that’s safely in view, and thatch is a specialist material. On older roofs, it’s typically the chimneys and lead flashings that need work first.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Ifold
Roof problems in a rented home affect tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work around your tenants.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.
Do you need a gutter survey in Ifold?
Many people get in touch after seeing water pour over a gutter in heavy rain. Others notice a damp wall, a stained ceiling or a green streak down the brickwork. A survey helps show where the water is coming from before more damage is done.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Rotten fascias or stained soffits
- Gutters full of debris and silt
- Gutters overflowing in heavy rain
- Dripping or leaking gutter joints
Anyone responsible for a site like Loxwood Primary School will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

What else we do in Ifold
What a gutter survey looks like in Ifold
What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, ideally before any re-roofing is planned. Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Knowing the covering helps explain which parts of a roof are likely to need work first.
Take an older house close to St John the Baptist: old fixings, lead flashings and tall chimneys are typical of older roofs.

How we price gutter surveys
All our prices include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- Extensions, dormers and garages with roofs of their own
- The shape of the roof and its details
- How big the roof is
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £150, including VAT.
What we need to know
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- The property’s address and postcode
To arrange a survey, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. We’ll confirm the price before you book.
Before and after the survey
Getting the most from a gutter survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Look for green streaks or damp patches on walls
- Make sure downpipe clips are holding
- Keep climbers away from the eaves
Once work is carried out, keep an eye on the gutters in the next downpour. Rain should flow to the outlets and down the downpipes, and if it does not, raise it with whoever did the job.
Watch your gutters from ground level or a window during heavy rain. Water spilling over the edge or out of a joint is a sign that something needs attention before damage builds up.
What a gutter survey doesn’t cover
To be straight with you, there are limits to any roof survey:
- The inside of a downpipe along its whole length
- Gutters out of sight from every safe viewpoint
- The inside of buried drains
If in doubt, call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll point you to the right survey. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Eaves gutters
- Downpipes
- Valley gutters
- Parapet and box gutters
- Fascias and soffits
- Outlets and hoppers
What happens on the day
Photos are taken throughout the visit, so you can see in the report what we found and where. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it is applicable and the weather allows. A typical visit takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, and longer where there are parapet, valley or box gutters to follow. In a hamlet or village like Ifold, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- The eaves gutters, downpipes and fascias are checked from ground level and windows.
- We check hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- Where it is safe, we check the loft for signs of water.
- You receive a report with photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
