Gutter surveys for homes and businesses in Bewbush
A gutter needs a steady fall towards its outlet or water sits in them. When brackets sag or joints part, water pools, drips and spills over at the low points. We look along each run for sags, gaps and leaking joints, along with the brackets and downpipe fixings. Recommendations are written down and prioritised by urgency where relevant. If you’ve noticed leaks at the gutter joints and gutters that have fallen out of line, we can find out what’s behind it, on parapet and box gutters, outlets and hoppers and downpipes alike.
Around Bewbush, gardens, hedges and nearby trees can mean leaves and moss end up on roofs and in gutters. Once gutters and outlets block, water spills over and soaks the walls. A report spots that kind of slow problem before it becomes damp inside. Moss on the roof and weeds in the gutter are both easy to spot from the ground.
How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Signs you need a gutter survey in Bewbush
Hidden gutters are often lined with lead or another sheet covering. When a lining splits or an outlet blocks, the water can come inside as there’s nowhere harmless for it to go. Lead linings can also be stolen.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Hoppers and outlets full of debris
- Gutters packed with leaves or moss
- Sagging gutters and loose brackets
- Fascia boards damaged by overflowing water
Shop and office owners around County Mall may find that a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- How long the report takes to arrive
- Are they insured for the work?
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
Roofs, chimneys and gutters in Bewbush
Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. Older houses across Sussex frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. A few old Sussex buildings still carry heavy Horsham stone slabs. Each of these coverings has its own weak points, from fixings and valleys to flashings, chimneys and gutters.
Anyone responsible for a site like The Bewbush Academy will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle. If you let a flat or house near Ifield station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak.

Why it’s worth a survey now in Bewbush
A gutter clear-out takes the leaves away but it won’t explain why water keeps spilling over. Our survey also looks at falls, joints, brackets, outlets and downpipes, so you know whether there’s more to it. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Bewbush, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £150, including VAT.

How the survey changes by roof type
Plastic (uPVC) gutters
Older plastic gutters can turn brittle and split. We look at the joints, brackets and falls.
Cast iron gutters
Rust at joints and brackets is the usual weak point on cast iron. We note corrosion, cracks and leaking joints as far as we can see them.

How it works
We will ask a few questions first, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. With a bit of garden around a house, as there often is around Bewbush, the roof can be viewed from several angles. Mention any side of the property we can’t get to. Inside, the loft is looked at where it can be reached safely.
- We start with what you’ve noticed, such as damp or overflowing gutters.
- We walk round the building and check the gutters, downpipes and fascias from the ground.
- We look at hidden gutters as far as safe access allows.
- The roof space is checked for staining, where it can be reached safely.
- A written report with photos and recommendations follows.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
- Note where any stains or damp appear

DIY checks: what’s safe
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from the ground or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.
FAQs for Bewbush
Should a flat-roofed garage or porch in Bewbush be checked too?
It’s frequently worth it, as these roofs are easy to forget. Cement sheet roofs on buildings from before 2000 may contain asbestos, so a specialist asbestos surveyor should check before they’re disturbed.
Is Bewbush within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned in advance.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning. Tell us about it when booking and we will plan the survey around it.
Is a Saturday or Sunday visit possible?
Yes, we carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays as well as weekdays. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email to arrange it.
What’s the best way to book?
To arrange a survey, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us the address and what you need to know. We’ll confirm the price and find a day that suits.
Is there a good time of year to book a gutter survey?
You can book at any time of year. Booking before autumn and winter gives you time to plan though problems often show up after heavy rain.
Will you check the drains below ground?
No, we do not carry out CCTV drain surveys. The survey covers gutters, outlets, hoppers, downpipes and overflows and note any sign that the drains need checking.
Before and after the survey
You don’t need to be a roofer to help. What helps most:
- Get the gutters cleaned out every year
- Don’t climb a ladder to look in the gutters
- Include valley, parapet and box gutters when clearing
- Note any damp stains below the gutters
For let and shared buildings, the report can go on file to help plan maintenance. Photos make it easier to explain the work to owners, tenants or contractors.
Get the gutters cleared every year, and more often if trees overhang the roof. Late autumn, after the leaves have fallen, is a sensible time. Clean gutters can do their job.
