We take a careful look at the roof at your property in The Holt, with photographs and a written report.
- Crumbling chimney pointing or cracked flaunching
- Valley linings that have cracked or split
- Loose ridge or hip tiles
Roof survey in The Holt
The report is written for you, in plain language. Each defect is described with photos and a recommendation, and where it is relevant we say what’s urgent and what can wait. With the Standard Survey you also get moisture detection and a structural check. Premium adds thermal imaging, a drone inspection where applicable and a same-day report. Reports are sent by email. If you’ve noticed loose ridge or hip tiles and standing water on a flat roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Older buildings in small places like The Holt may be listed or in a conservation area. If yours is, re-roofing in different materials may need consent, so the council is the place to check. A roof report helps you plan work with that in mind. Older materials like clay tiles, slate and stone are frequently matched when work is done.
The report works through the roof section by section, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets, with a note and a photo for each point. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Somewhere like The Holt needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect whatever is safely visible, inside and out.

The Holt homes and their roofs
With Harleyford Manor about 3.9 miles north, The Holt sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs frequently carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. The Holt is about 3 miles from White Waltham Airfield. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you let a flat or house near Wargrave station, knowing the condition of the roof, chimneys and gutters helps you plan work rather than react to complaints. Anyone responsible for a site like Robert Piggott CofE Infant School will know that long gutter runs and wide roofs on a building that size are worth checking on a regular cycle.

Useful tips for The Holt property owners
Small things make a difference, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Some pointers:
- Check we can open the loft hatch
- Keep the report with your property records
- Mention any damp patches when booking
- Ask about a flat roof on an extension or garage too
File the report with your other home documents. It gives you something to compare against later, and buyers may ask about the roof when you sell.
Have the roof surveyed every few years, and after major storms. Routine surveys pick up wear before it leaks. Each report gives a record to compare against.

The Holt: your questions answered
Does a conservation area affect roof work in The Holt?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Is The Holt within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Will the report say how many years my roof has left?
Not as a figure. We describe the condition of each part of the roof and how it’s wearing, and we say what needs attention and how urgently.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
We have completed more than 5,000 surveys, across 20+ years of surveying roofs.
How soon is the report ready?
It depends on the package: within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. We send it by email.
Is a roof survey the same as a structural survey?
No. We report on the roof’s condition, and Standard and Premium include structural checks. It doesn’t include structural calculations, which need an engineer.
Are you insured?
We’re covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.
