About our roof survey in Whitehill
We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from the ground, from windows and other vantage points, from inside the loft and from the roof itself where it is safe. Premium adds thermal imaging, plus a drone inspection where it applies, for roofs that are hard to see well. All we need from you is access to the property and the loft. Each defect we find is photographed and explained. We are often asked to look into condensation or damp timbers in the loft and worn or blocked valleys, across clay and concrete tiles, the roof space and lead flashings.
In a village or hamlet like Whitehill, older cottages and farmhouses often sit alongside barns, outbuildings and a few newer houses. Older roofs may be clay tile, slate, stone or thatch, frequently with chimneys that have stood a long time. We report on whatever is safely visible, and thatch is a specialist material. Chimneys and lead flashings on old roofs often need the most attention.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Tips from our surveys
Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:
- Let us know about past leaks
- Do not climb onto the roof yourself
- Mention any flat roofs as well as the main roof
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
Premium comes with a follow-up after 12 months. It shows how the roof has fared over the year.
Every so often, look in the loft space with a torch, keeping to boarded areas. Look for water marks, damp wood and chinks of light. Photograph anything new.
How it works
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Older rural homes like those around Whitehill can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we cannot see is noted.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- We arrange a day that suits you, including weekends.
- The roof is inspected from ground level, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- Your report arrives by email, with recommendations prioritised by urgency.
Preparing for the visit
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Tell us about parking before the day

Roof surveys around Whitehill
Whitehill lies within about 4 miles of the sea, and wind near the sea can be strong. The weather on the day decides whether a flight goes ahead, as a small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour. Belmont House and Gardens, about 2.4 miles south-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Whitehill. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Peter and St Paul, corroded nails, tired lead and weathered chimney pointing are the things to watch on older roofs. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Ospringe Church of England Primary School, large buildings have long gutter runs and big roofs that need checking like any other. If you own a rental within reach of Faversham station, the gap between tenancies is a good time to have the roof looked at.
Whitehill is about 1 mile south-west of Faversham, in Kent. We survey roofs in Whitehill and the surrounding area as part of our work across London and South East England. Whitehill is one of the towns and villages in Kent we cover. There is also a page for Canterbury.

Close by, we survey roofs in Brogdale (1 mile west), Ospringe (1 mile north), Preston (1 mile north-east), Faversham (1 mile north-east) and Davington (1 mile north). We also work in nearby towns like Maidstone (15 miles west), Ashford (11 miles south), Canterbury (9 miles east), Sittingbourne (7 miles north-west), Whitstable (8 miles north-east) and Herne Bay (12 miles east).

How the survey changes by roof type
Concrete interlocking tiles
Ridge and verge mortar on concrete tile roofs can crack and fall away. We check for loose ridge tiles and missing mortar.
Lead flashings and valleys
Lead-lined valleys and gutters are common on older homes. Worn or split lead lets water straight in.
Your questions about roof surveys in Whitehill
Can a landlord with a rental near Faversham station book a roof survey?
Yes, landlords and agents are among the people we work for. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you need, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Is Whitehill within the area you cover?
Yes, Whitehill is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one, with the route planned beforehand.
Can you survey in bad weather?
A survey can usually go ahead in light rain, and it can even help show where water is getting in. Heavy rain or strong wind can ground a drone and make the roof unsafe, so we’ll agree a new date if the weather isn’t suitable.
Will you check the loft?
Where it is relevant to the survey and there’s safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.
Can you check whether my roof contains asbestos?
No. Asbestos was banned in UK construction in 1999, so older buildings may have it. Our report notes any materials that might, and a specialist asbestos surveyor should check them.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
When will the report arrive?
Premium reports arrive the same day, Standard within 24 to 48 hours and Basic within 48 hours. Each report includes photos.
