Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Bagnum

Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. That makes the difference between storm damage and old wear important. We note signs of each: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems such as corroded nails or worn mortar. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. If you’ve noticed lead lifted at abutments and roofs hit by falling trees, we can find out what’s behind it, on flashings, flat roofs and ridges and hips alike.

Many homes in small places like Bagnum face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Photos show what each point refers to, with the urgent items made clear.

How it works

It helps to start with what’s prompted the survey: a purchase, a leak, a storm, new work or simply peace of mind. It helps us focus on what matters most to you. The visit normally takes roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. Somewhere like Bagnum needs a little journey planning: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. On the day, we inspect what can be seen safely, inside and out.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
  3. The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
  4. We note the likely cause, including any signs of wear that were there before the storm.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Note where any stains or damp appear
  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at

Advice

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Bagnum

How do I find out if my home in Bagnum is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Bagnum?

Yes, Bagnum is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and some details.

Can I check the roof after a storm?

Stay off the roof. Photograph the damage from below or from a window. Record the date and any damage inside as well.

What if my insurer declines the claim?

Start by complaining to the insurer. If it isn’t resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We fly a sub-250g drone and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). It’s included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

How long is the visit?

Most surveys take about one to two hours at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. We’ll confirm the timing when booking.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes. A shared roof needs access agreed first, with the building owner or managing agent. Tell us about it when you book and we’ll explain what’s needed.

Roof by roof

Slate roofs

Natural slate can last 100 years or more, but the nails often fail first. The report records whether slipped slates look like storm damage or older wear.

Clay and concrete tiles

Broken or missing tiles leave the underlay exposed to rain. Each gap is recorded with a photo.

Can I check my roof myself?

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Don’t go up yourself.

A lot can be seen from ground level. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

What a survey costs

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. What you pay for your roof depends on:

  • Which survey package you book
  • The roof’s overall size
  • The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings

To find out what your survey will cost, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details. We will confirm the figure before booking.

  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • The property’s address and postcode

Bagnum roofs and the weather

Historic houses such as Avon Tyrrell House, about 1.7 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Bagnum goes. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in.

If you look after a building such as Ringwood School, water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

Bagnum is about 2 miles south-east of Ringwood, in Hampshire. If you are in Bagnum, booking works exactly as it does anywhere else: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Our Hampshire coverage includes Bagnum and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Southampton page.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Bagnum

Buyers’ agents can book surveys on behalf of their clients. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client.

For blocks of flats, a roof survey helps managing agents and residents’ management companies plan ahead. The report sets out what needs attention now and what can wait, which helps when budgeting.

Tips from our surveys

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
  • Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing
  • Check your policy for how to report damage
  • Keep a note of the date of the storm

Questions about the findings are always welcome. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.

Check the roof from the ground after strong winds. With binoculars, you can often spot problems without climbing. Never climb onto the roof yourself.
