Storm damage roof reports for Bramshill homes and businesses

Why it is worth a survey now in Bramshill

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it is better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so there are no surprises later. In a small place like Bramshill, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.

The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where it applies, from £400 with VAT included. We’ll tell you which package suits the questions you have.

About our storm damage roof report in Bramshill

After a storm, safety comes first. Take photos from ground level or from windows, and do not climb onto the roof. Emergency temporary protection, like covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Hold on to receipts for anything you pay for. We survey ridges and hips, slate and tile slopes and gutters and fascias, and common reasons people get in touch are damaged ridges and hips and gutters pulled loose in the wind.

Somewhere as small as Bramshill, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you’re thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.

We keep jargon out of it: if work is needed, the report says so clearly.

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photographs as we go and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Around Bramshill, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there’s access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. The findings are written up with photographs for you to share with your insurer.

Preparing for the visit

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work

Wind, rain and roofs in Bramshill

Stratfield Saye House, about 2.8 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Bramshill. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.

If you live near a park such as Wellington Country Park, or anywhere with mature trees, autumn leaves can block gutters and valleys, and an overflowing gutter soon means a wet wall. Landlords with a home close to Winchfield station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.

Different roofs, different checks

Flat roof coverings

Lifted trims and laps are common after a storm. We check whether the damage is recent or older.

Slate roofs

Slates can slip or blow off in a storm, particularly where the nails have corroded. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.

Before and after the survey

A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Our tips:

  • Take photos from ground level or a window, never by climbing
  • Ask a roofer for emergency temporary protection if water is coming in
  • Photograph damage inside the house too
  • Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage

You’ll need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. They can use our report to see what needs doing.

Ask a tree specialist about branches over the roof. Branches can hit or scrape the roof in a storm.

When to book a survey in Bramshill

When you claim, your insurer may ask for evidence of the damage and its cause. An independent report gives you a clear record to send. The decision still rests with the insurer.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Damage from fallen branches or debris
  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings
  • Damaged gutters and fascias

The streets around a church such as Mission Church are often among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
  • Whether the price includes VAT
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey
