The survey, step by step
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect whatever is safely visible, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. The survey usually takes about one to two hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. For a village or hamlet like Hale, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
- We check the roof from wherever it’s safe.
- We record and photograph the damage.
- We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
- You get a written report to pass to your insurer.
Before the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the freeholder or managing agent

Advice
Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Hale
Many policies treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but it varies by policy. Your policy document sets out its own definition. We don’t decide whether a storm met that test. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. Each area of damage is photographed, and the report is yours to pass on. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. If you’ve noticed holes or cracks caused by debris and damaged pots on the stack, a survey will tell you what’s going on, whatever the roof.
In a village or hamlet like Hale, older cottages and farmhouses frequently have roofs that have been patched over many years. That makes it hard to tell new damage from old wear, and the difference matters, particularly to an insurer. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Basic reports come within 48 hours, Standard within 24–48 hours and Premium on the day.

Hale questions
Is Hale in the area you cover?
Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Hale is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Hale?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
What’s the best way to book?
It’s easiest to phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Let us know the address and a little about the roof. We survey on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays.
How experienced are you?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we’re allowed to reach.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID.
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. Our suggestions:
- Keep invoices for temporary repairs
- Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
- Take photos of stains and damp inside
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
If anything in the report is not clear, just ask us. Standard Surveys come with a follow-up consultation, and Premium Surveys with an in-person one.
Keep gutters and outlets clear so heavy rain can drain away. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.
DIY checks: what’s safe
A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
Storm damage roof reports around Hale
Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. About 2.5 miles west lies Breamore House, a reminder of how long the area around Hale has been built on. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Take a building like Hale Primary School: water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot. For an older house near a landmark such as Church of St Mary, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before you book. This is what makes a difference:
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- Which survey package you book
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The roof’s overall size
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report is not charged as an extra. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
Booking your survey
Before you get in touch, it is useful to have:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
- What made you get in touch
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
A quick phone call is usually the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or email us. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. An independent report can follow. Outbuildings and barns around Hale are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. A quick look before winter can save a lot.
Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so they’re priced to match. You’ll know the figure before booking.
