Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Ipsden

A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. It’s a photo-illustrated written report, sent by email. It isn’t a repair quote and does not include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for that. The insurer may still send a loss adjuster of its own. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. Common reasons to book are stains appearing after strong winds and slipped or missing slates or tiles, across flat roofs, chimney stacks and ridges and hips.

Many homes in small places like Ipsden face open ground, where storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hardest. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.

It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Ipsden

Is Ipsden within the area you cover?

Yes, Ipsden is covered. We cover the whole of London and South East England, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it’s useful to know about access.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Ipsden?

Yes, Ipsden is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photos, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.

How should I record storm damage myself?

Only from the ground or from windows. Never climb onto a roof after a storm. Binoculars can help you see damage from below, and we will record the rest.

How many surveys have you done?

We’ve been surveying roofs for over 20 years and have completed over 5,000 surveys.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.

Who handles emergency protection after a storm?

Call a roofer for emergency temporary protection. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it is covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

Do you use drones?

Yes, where it’s applicable. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.

Storm damage roof reports around Ipsden

The wider area around Ipsden has a long history of building, with Basildon Park about 4.7 miles south. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof. Older buildings in west Oxfordshire often have Cotswold stone slate roofs, and some Oxfordshire villages still have thatch. In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.

Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. For landlords with property near Cholsey station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. Anyone responsible for a site like Langtree School will know that water through a big roof can travel a long way before it drips, so the search covers more than the obvious spot.

What affects the price in Ipsden

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The roof’s overall size
  • Commercial roofs and larger buildings
  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.

A few details help us point you to the right survey and price. When you contact us, it helps to mention:

  • The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
  • Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
  • When you need the report by
  • The property’s address and postcode

Leave it or get it looked at?

What we look for on each type of roof

Slate roofs

In high winds, slates can slip or go, often where nails have rusted. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. We note whether the mortar looks recently broken or long worn.

Before and after the survey

A few practical points come up again and again on our surveys. They apply to most roofs:

  • Photograph the damage safely from below
  • Look at what your policy says about wear and tear
  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Keep fallen slates or tiles as evidence if safe

You get the report by email and pass it to your insurer yourself. We don’t deal with the insurer on your behalf.

Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

What a storm damage roof report does not cover

Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • A price for the repairs
  • The outcome of a claim
  • Areas we can’t see safely

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Chimney stacks
  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Ridges and hips
  • Flat roofs
  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias

What happens on the day

We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the loft space if there’s safe access. All told, expect an hour or two at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In a hamlet or village like Ipsden, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.

  1. You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Let us know about any leaks, stains or damp patches you know of
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • Leave a clear route to the loft
