Thermal Roof Survey in Ipsden
A careful look at the roof at your property in Ipsden, with photographs and a written report.
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Gaps in loft insulation
Thermal roof survey in Ipsden
We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. With a Premium Survey, the report reaches you the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey loft conversions, ceilings below the roof and commercial roofs, and people most frequently book us about leaks far from where the stain appears and heat escaping through the roof.
Villages like Ipsden frequently stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
We write the report in plain English, so it makes sense without any roofing background. Photos show what each point refers to.

What we look for on each type of roof
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
Loft insulation
Loft insulation is easily disturbed when people store things or run cables. The camera can show where it no longer covers the ceiling.
Honest limits
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Reliable images in rain, strong wind or on a wet roof surface
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll tell you before booking. What our survey covers.

What a survey costs
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- House, block, shop or office
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
Booking your survey
Getting the details right at the start saves time. It’s useful to include:
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- What kind of property and roof it is
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email, and we will ask about the building and what you need. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
Tips from our surveys
There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. What helps most:
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
- Do not climb onto the roof to look for leaks yourself
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There is a 12-month follow-up too.
Make sure loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Gaps often appear after work in the loft.

Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Ipsden
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Water that travels before it shows
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Heat escaping through the roof
Anyone responsible for a site like Langtree School will know that big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
What to check before booking
- Which parts of the roof they’ll actually see
- When you will get the report
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- Whether VAT is added on top
The survey, step by step
We look at the roof from outside and, where it’s relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the roof space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement, as far as the space allows. All in, the survey usually takes an hour or two for a house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. In a hamlet or village like Ipsden, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Before we arrive
- Tell us where we can park nearby
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Leave a clear route to the loft

FAQs for Ipsden
Do you cover Ipsden?
Yes, Ipsden is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. You can phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
Is my home in Ipsden listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will I get photos?
Yes. We photograph the roof as we go, and they go into the written report alongside our recommendations.
Can you do a thermal survey in any weather?
The results depend on the weather. Dry, calm weather after some sun gives the best chance of clear images. We record the conditions in the report, so you know how much weight to give the images.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once access has been agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is often shared, so we need permission from the freeholder or managing agent. We can only inspect what we are given access to.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. We flag materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement sheets or soffits on pre-2000 buildings, and recommend a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before they’re disturbed.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof and can sit alongside a RICS survey.
Thermal roof surveys around Ipsden
West Oxfordshire’s older buildings often carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
Basildon Park lies about 4.7 miles south, so building around Ipsden goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you live in an older home near Church of St Mary, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps.
