Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Lions Green

Most policies don’t cover wear and tear. That makes the difference between storm damage and old wear important. We note signs of each: recent damage alongside any older defects, like nail fatigue on slates or eroded pointing. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. We survey chimney stacks, slate and tile slopes and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are flat roof edges peeled back and damaged gutters and fascias.

Many homes in small places like Lions Green face open ground, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Once water gets into older walls, it takes a long time to dry, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A record with photographs is useful if you need to show the damage to anyone else.

Most points in the report come with a picture, so you can see each defect rather than just read about it. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Lions Green

Will you come out to Lions Green?

Yes. Lions Green is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.

Do you cover Lions Green?

Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Lions Green is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details.

Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Who handles emergency protection after a storm?

Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. If it’s safe, take photos before it goes on. We can record the damage in our report.

How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?

It depends on your policy. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Check your policy wording.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take between one and two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. We will confirm the timing as you book.

Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and our survey covers the roof rather than the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.

Roof by roof

Ridge and hip tiles

Worn mortar under ridge tiles can let them lift in a storm. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.

Lead flashings

Flashings can lift or pull away from walls and chimneys in strong winds. We record which are loose or damaged.

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

How the survey works

A survey visit follows a simple order: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, take photos as we go and record our findings for the written report. Most visits take about one to two hours for most houses, or half a day or so for a commercial building. For a village or hamlet like Lions Green, the journey is planned beforehand: let us know about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there is safe access and from the roof where it is safe.

  1. You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. The roof is inspected from ground level, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. You receive the written report with photos.

When to book a survey in Lions Green

Gusts work at anything on a roof that is loose or exposed. Driving rain then gets in through the gaps. People typically call us after a storm, once they’ve noticed damage or a leak.

A survey can pick up problems such as:

  • Broken or displaced guttering
  • Slipped or missing slates or tiles
  • Loose or torn flashings
  • Flat roof edges peeled back

For an older house near a landmark such as The Parish Church of All Saints, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in.

Questions to ask before booking

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Whether VAT is added on top
  • What they won’t be able to tell you
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection

What’s in a roof survey

Why get it checked now?

Before temporary repairs, photograph the damage from ground level if it’s safe. Those photos show the damage as it was. Older and listed buildings around Lions Green may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.

To find out what your survey will cost, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Why book with us

  • Package prices that include VAT
  • Thermal imaging and drone inspection where they help
  • Satisfaction rate of 98%
  • Drone flown under a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID

Wind, rain and roofs in Lions Green

The wider area around Lions Green has a long history of building, with Horselunges Manor about 4 miles south. Older homes in the wider area frequently have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old Sussex buildings, alongside oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses. Different coverings let water in at different points, which shapes where the search starts.
