Storm damage roof reports in Waldron

What you can safely check yourself

Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.

A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Storm damage roof report in Waldron: what you get

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We’re not loss adjusters and cannot tell you if your claim will succeed. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. We survey flashings, slate and tile slopes and flat roofs, and common reasons people get in touch are damaged pots on the stack and damage from fallen branches or debris.

Somewhere as small as Waldron, older roofs have frequently been repaired many times. A new leak may be fresh damage or the latest sign of long-term wear, which matters if you’re thinking of an insurance claim. The report says what was seen and what it points to. Damp in old walls and timbers is slow to dry, so the sooner the cause is found the better.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

What happens if roof problems are left?

A clear, independent record helps you explain the damage to your insurer. It records the damage and what seems to have caused it, so you’re not relying only on your own photos. Around Waldron, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it is left.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

FAQs for Waldron

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Waldron?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Waldron?

Yes, Waldron is within the area we cover. We work right across London and South East England. Just call 07833 053749 or email us and tell us about the property.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Where it is relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. Please clear anything stored under the hatch.

Can you survey a shared roof?

Yes, once access has been agreed. Roofs over flats are frequently shared, so we need permission from the building owner or managing agent. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?

It varies by policy. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but check your own wording.

How much is a storm damage roof report?

Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report does not include repair costs.

Is wear and tear covered by insurance?

Wear and tear is not normally covered. We describe what looks like fresh storm damage and what looks older. Your insurer decides the claim.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. A typical visit takes about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. In a small place like Waldron, access is normally the main thing to plan. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
  2. We inspect the roof from safe viewpoints and from the loft where there is access.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
  5. We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Leave a clear route to the loft

Booking a survey

Booking is simple: just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form, let us know about the property and we will recommend the right survey. The price is agreed up front.

Advice

Different roofs, different checks

Clay and concrete tiles

Strong gusts can lift and break tiles. The report shows each damaged area.

Flat roof coverings

Branches and debris can damage flat roofs or block outlets. We record what we find.

Tips from our surveys

You don’t need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Ask a roofer for emergency temporary protection if water is coming in
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it is safe to do so
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage

Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. You’ll have your own independent record to refer to.

A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.

What a survey costs

We confirm the exact price before you book. These are the things that affect it:

  • Roof area
  • House, block, shop or office
  • If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.

What to tell us when you get in touch

If you can, have these to hand when you get in touch:

  • When you need the report by
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email, and we’ll ask about the building and what you need. You’ll have a price before anything is arranged.

Waldron roofs and the weather

There are about 500,000 buildings on England’s list of listed buildings, and around 10,000 conservation areas. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so the council is the place to ask. Handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls are typical of older Sussex houses. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs, and oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of East Sussex’s older buildings. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed.

Living close to Passingworth Park is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn. If you own a rental within reach of Buxted station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. For an older house near a landmark like The Parish Church of All Saints, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.
