Storm damage roof report in Northway, Oxfordshire
Get a clear view of the roof at a property in Northway. We visit on weekdays and at weekends.
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
- Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
- Roofs hit by falling trees
How it works
The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect about 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. A visit to Northway is planned like any other: the time, the access and where to park are agreed beforehand. Weekday and weekend visits are both possible. Let us know about any garages, outbuildings or extensions you want included.
- You let us know what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
- The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
- Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
- The report, with photos, is emailed to you.
How to prepare
- Let us know about parking near the property
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Leave a clear route to the loft

About our storm damage roof report in Northway
A storm damage roof report is an independent record of the damage to your roof after a storm. We record each area of damage, photograph it and note the likely cause. It’s yours to pass to your insurer. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We are not loss adjusters and can’t say whether a claim will be paid. We survey slate and tile slopes, chimney stacks and gutters and fascias, and common reasons people get in touch are gutters pulled loose in the wind and damaged flat roof membrane.
Houses in smaller places like Northway can stand more in the open, where driving rain gets into any gap at a ridge, verge or flashing. If a leak shows only when the wind is in a certain direction, that is a useful clue. Tell us when it happens when you get in touch. Gutters and downpipes on the exposed side are worth a look as well.
The written findings come by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Leaks and storm damage in Northway
Cotswold stone slates are found on older buildings in west Oxfordshire, and thatch survives in some of the county’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in. The wider area around Northway has a long history of building, with Holywell Manor about 1.5 miles south-west. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
If you own a rental within reach of Oxford station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it. Anyone responsible for a site like New Marston Primary School will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain.

Northway: your questions answered
Do you cover Northway?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Northway is part of that. You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details.
Do you cover smaller places like Northway?
Yes, Northway is covered. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it is useful to know about access.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, for you to give to your insurer.
Will you check the loft?
Usually, if there is one and it can be reached safely. The loft space can show things the outside cannot, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
How do I book a survey in Northway?
It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or send us an email. Give us the address and some details about the roof, and we’ll recommend the right survey. We survey seven days a week.
What do I do if water is coming in?
Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. We can record the damage in our report.

What else we do in Northway
Do you need a storm damage roof report in Northway?
Falling trees and branches can damage roofs in high winds. The report shows what was hit and the damage caused, with photos.
Look out for signs like these:
- New damp or leaks inside
- Ridge tiles that have come loose
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
For an older house near a landmark like St Anthony of Padua, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

- Will the report include photos?
- Their track record with similar roofs
When you need someone else
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Whether your insurer will pay the claim
- Acting for you with the insurer
- Estimates of repair costs
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or email us and we will tell you before booking. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Ridges and hips
- Slate and tile slopes
- Gutters and fascias
- Flashings
- Flat roofs
- Chimney stacks
Should I look at the roof myself first?
A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground, and those are details a survey looks at closely.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Knowing whether older wear played a part helps you understand your position. We record storm damage and older defects, so there are no surprises later. On a bungalow or cottage around Northway, the roof sits close to the rooms below, so water can show inside quickly once it gets past the covering. Catching the cause first saves redecorating as well.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £150, including VAT.
