Storm damage roof report in Oakshott: what you get

A storm damage roof report is priced from £150. You get a written report with photos by email. It isn’t a repair quote and doesn’t include repair costs, so ask a roofer to quote for the work. Your insurer may also send its own loss adjuster. What you get is an independent record of the damage and what seems to have caused it. Typical surveys look at damage from fallen branches or debris and lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles, on gutters and fascias, slate and tile slopes and flashings.

For a small place like Oakshott, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

The price reflects the time and kit the roof needs. That comes down to:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • Whether it is a home or a commercial building

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

What to let us know when you contact us

You do not need to know any roofing terms. It is enough to tell us:

  • The kind of building and roof involved
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Any marks or damp showing indoors
  • Your postcode, so we can check access and travel

Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Practical tips

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out as worth the effort:

  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs
  • Don’t go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Report the damage to your insurer as soon as you can
  • Photograph damage inside the house too

You’ll need a roofer’s quote for the repairs. They can use our report to see what needs doing.

Ask a tree specialist about branches over the roof. They can damage the roof in high winds.

Why get it checked now?

Before temporary repairs, photograph the damage from the ground if it is safe. Those photos show the damage as it was. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

How the survey works

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. Older rural homes like those around Oakshott can have a main roof, lower lean-to roofs and outbuildings all joined together. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

Before the survey

  • Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Oakshott questions

How do I find out if my home in Oakshott is listed?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.

Will you come out to Oakshott?

Yes. Oakshott is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Is this a RICS survey?

No. It is a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Prices start from £150, including VAT. Larger or more complex roofs are quoted for their size. It doesn’t include repair costs, so you will need a roofer’s quote for those.

Will you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. The insurer may send a loss adjuster of its own.

Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?

Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. Take photos from the ground first if it’s safe. Keep receipts for any emergency work.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, which can make access easier.

Landlords, agents and building managers in Oakshott and across Hampshire can book any of our surveys. For a price for a let property or a block, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.

What we look for on each type of roof

Chimney stacks

Stacks with existing defects tend to suffer more in storms. Our report notes recent damage and older defects.

Flat roof coverings

Wind can lift the edges of flat roof coverings or tear them. We record any damage and where it is.

Wind, rain and roofs in Oakshott

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. The council is the place to check, along with Historic England’s list, before anyone quotes for re-roofing.

If your house is among the older ones in the streets near Church of St Peter and St Paul, old mortar, worn lead and slipped slates are the usual suspects when water gets in. If you let a flat or house near Liss station, tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.
