Storm damage roof report in Roundshaw

After a storm, it’s useful to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. We photograph the damage, describe it and note whether it fits storm damage, older wear or both. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot say whether a claim will be paid. What you get is an independent view of the roof’s condition. We survey slate and tile slopes, chimney stacks and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are stains appearing after strong winds and broken or displaced guttering.

Many London homes are well over a century old and their roofs have been patched more than once, so a new leak can be the latest sign of wear rather than a single event. Insurers normally exclude wear and tear, so it helps to know whether damage is old or new. A careful look in Roundshaw tells the two apart where the evidence allows. A written record with photographs helps you explain what was found to whoever deals with it next.

Where we cannot see part of the roof, the report says so. You will know exactly what was inspected and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

When you need someone else

It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:

  • The outcome of a claim
  • Negotiating a claim settlement

If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Useful tips for Roundshaw property owners

A little preparation and a few simple habits help, both for the survey and for the roof itself. Our tips:

  • Record any water damage in rooms and the loft
  • Tell your insurer about the damage promptly
  • Arrange temporary cover with a roofer if rain is getting in
  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs

After the visit, we write up the report with photos of each area of damage. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.

Keep records of roof work and surveys. They help show the roof was in good order before a storm.

Roof by roof

Ridge and hip tiles

Worn mortar under ridge tiles can let them lift in a storm. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.

Slate roofs

In high winds, slates can slip or go, often where nails have rusted. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.

Roundshaw roofs and the weather

The wider area around Roundshaw has a long history of building, with Addington Palace about 3.9 miles east. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. In outer London, interwar semis with hipped, tiled roofs sit alongside older slate-roofed terraces. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.

For landlords with property near Wallington station, finding the cause of a leak fast keeps a tenant’s home dry and the work focused. If you run a business near St George's Walk, finding where water is getting in quickly keeps disruption down. Take an older house close to St. Paul's: leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks.

Roundshaw: your questions answered

Is parking a problem for a survey in Roundshaw?

It rarely stops a survey, but it is worth planning. Let us know the parking rules on your street and we’ll work around them.

Is Roundshaw in the area you cover?

Yes, Roundshaw is within the area we cover. We work right across London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and tell us about the property.

How long will you be at the property?

Most surveys take an hour or two for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. We’ll confirm the timing when booking.

Will you walk on the roof?

Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows and vantage points, from the loft space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

Surveys run seven days a week. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?

Emergency temporary protection is a job for a roofer. Photograph the damage first if you can do so safely. Our report then records the roof.

Can you inspect my roof with a drone?

Where it’s applicable and safe, yes. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. It is included in the Drone Roof Survey and, where it applies, the Premium Survey.

How the survey works

We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. We take close-ups from wherever is safe, including by drone where it’s applicable and the weather allows. Most surveys take between one and two hours on an ordinary house, and longer for a large or complex roof. In converted houses and mansion blocks, the loft hatch is often on a shared landing. Where that is the case, access needs agreeing with whoever controls that landing. Everything else is planned around the building, not the postcode.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. The roof is inspected from safe positions.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. We note the likely cause and any signs of older wear.
  5. We send you the report by email for your insurer.

What happens if roof problems are left?

If the damage is partly wear and tear, it’s better to know. Our report gives an honest view of both, so there are no surprises later. London’s older roofs often have bitumen felt underlay or none at all, so once the slates or flashings let water past, little stops it reaching ceilings. Left unchecked, water soaks into timber and plaster and the damage spreads.

Every price we give includes VAT. Our price is from £150, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
