Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Salters Heath
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photos, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. The decision on any claim rests with your insurer and its policy wording. We aren’t loss adjusters and cannot say whether a claim will be paid. If you’ve noticed water coming in after the storm and damaged ridges and hips, we can find out what’s behind it.
For a small place like Salters Heath, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. Photographs of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

What this survey cannot tell you
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:
- The outcome of a claim
- How your policy defines a storm
- Damage hidden under coverings or inside the structure, without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.
Roof types and parts we check
- Gutters and fascias
- Slate and tile slopes
- Flashings
- Flat roofs
- Ridges and hips
- Chimney stacks
How the survey works
We’ll ask a few questions first, like when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. For a village or hamlet like Salters Heath, the journey is planned in advance: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect everything that’s safely in view, inside and out.
- You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
- Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
- We view the roof from safe positions.
- We record fresh damage and older defects.
- You receive the written report with photos.
Before we arrive
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Advice
What we look for on each type of roof
Lead flashings
Lifted flashings let rain run behind them into the roof. The report records the flashing and any damp inside.
Chimney stacks
Wind can pull the flashings away from a chimney. We photograph any we find.
Leave it or get it looked at?
Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is typically better. In a small place like Salters Heath, homes can be exposed to wind and rain, which finds any gap, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.

Your questions about storm damage roof reports in Salters Heath
Is my home in Salters Heath listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is Salters Heath within the area you cover?
Yes. Salters Heath is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
What if the roof was already worn?
Wear and tear is usually excluded from home insurance. We note both storm damage and older defects, so you know what the roof shows. How the policy applies is up to your insurer.
Can you put a tarpaulin over the damage?
Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it’s safe, photograph the damage before it is covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
How do I book a survey in Salters Heath?
Simply call 07833 053749 or email us. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date, weekday or weekend.
How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?
There is no single figure. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Check your policy wording.

Storm damage roof reports around Salters Heath
Historic houses like The Vyne, about 1.5 miles south-east, show how far back building in the area around Salters Heath goes. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East frequently have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.
If you own a rental within reach of Bramley (Hants) station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. For businesses in and around places such as The Malls, water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast. For an older house near a landmark such as Pamber Priory, water on an older roof tends to find its way in at the lead, the valleys or the chimney.
Salters Heath is about 3 miles south of Tadley, in Hampshire. What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- Which survey package you book
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
There are three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
