Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Little London

Wear and tear is normally excluded from home insurance. So it matters whether the damage came from the storm or from a roof that was already worn. Our report records both: fresh breaks and recently moved slates or tiles, and older problems like corroded nails or worn mortar. We describe what we see, whichever way it points. Your insurer then decides how its policy applies. We survey ridges and hips, flashings and flat roofs, and people most often book us about flat roof edges peeled back and gutters pulled loose in the wind.

For a small place like Little London, the inspection is the same as anywhere: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Little London: your questions answered

Is Little London in the area you cover?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Little London as anywhere else.

How do I find out if my home in Little London is listed?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

How long is the visit?

It usually takes about 1–2 hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The written report follows by email.

I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?

Yes, as long as access is agreed. Roofs over flats are often shared, so the building owner or managing agent needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.

How many surveys have you done?

Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys.

How are storm damage reports priced?

Our price is from £150, including VAT. Larger or more complex roofs are quoted for their size. Repair costs aren’t included, so ask a roofer to quote.

Tips from our surveys

There’s plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:

  • Keep invoices for temporary repairs
  • Write down when the storm hit and when you noticed damage
  • Do not go onto the roof to take pictures
  • Look at what your policy says about wear and tear

For repair costs, ask a roofer to quote. They can use our report to see what needs doing.

Check the roof from ground level after strong winds. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or lifted ridges. Don’t go up a ladder to look.

What we do, step by step

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we check everything we can see safely, from the ground, from windows, in the roof space and by drone where it applies. The survey normally takes an hour or two at most homes, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Somewhere like Little London needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. On the day, we inspect what can safely be seen, inside and out.

  1. We note the date of the storm and the damage you’ve seen.
  2. We check the roof from wherever it is safe.
  3. Each area of damage is photographed and described.
  4. The report notes whether the damage fits a storm, older wear or both.
  5. You get a written report to pass to your insurer.

Preparing for the visit

  • Show us where any leaks or stains appear
  • Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors

For an older or listed building in a place like Little London, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.

Storm damage roof reports in Little London: local notes

Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it is detailed. The Vyne, about 1.9 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Little London. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Landlords with a home close to Bramley (Hants) station may find that a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over. Take an older house close to Saint Stephen's Church: the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.

Little London is about 2 miles south-east of Tadley, in Hampshire. Bookings from Little London are handled just like any other: get in touch, agree the price and pick a day. Across Hampshire, we cover Little London and the places around it. For surveys nearby, see our Reading page.

What affects the cost of storm damage roof reports

Survey packages start from £150, with VAT included. The price for your roof depends on:

  • Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • The roof’s overall size
  • How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see

Larger roofs, taller buildings and commercial roofs take longer, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

Helping us price your survey

The more you let us know, the easier it is to price the survey. When you get in touch, it’s useful to mention:

  • The address and postcode of the property
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • How the loft is reached, if there is one
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

You can call us seven days a week. For a price or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

Honest limits

Some things cannot be seen without opening up the roof, so a survey has limits:

  • What your policy covers, which depends on its wording
  • Negotiating a claim settlement
  • Areas we can’t see safely

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you before booking. What a survey covers and does not.

What this survey covers

  • Flashings
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Flat roofs
  • Chimney stacks
  • Ridges and hips
  • Slate and tile slopes

Should I look at the roof myself first?

The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
