Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in South Town
Each roof is looked at from the safest viewpoints available: from ground level, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it is safe. Every area of damage is photographed and described. We note any part we couldn’t see. The report, with photos, is yours to pass to your insurer. If you’ve noticed new damp or leaks inside and flat roof edges peeled back, we can find out what’s behind it, on gutters and fascias, flashings and chimney stacks alike.
Being in a small place like South Town makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: we simply plan the journey and access ahead. It helps to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, plus any earlier repairs. If you have photos of the water coming in, they help as well.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Why act early in South Town
Your policy may say how quickly you need to report damage. Let your insurer know early, and check what your policy asks for. Our report can then add a clear record. In a place like South Town, a barn or garage roof left to fail puts whatever is inside at risk. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £150, including VAT.

Tips that help
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Take photos from the ground or a window, never by climbing
- Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed
- File receipts for anything you pay for
- Photograph damage inside the house too
Once we have been, the findings are written up with photos. It covers the damage, its likely cause and any older defects. Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24 to 48 hours and Premium reports the same day.
Keep the roof in good order between storms. Fix slipped slates, loose ridges and lifted flashings when you spot them.
What else we do in South Town
How it works
We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there is safe access, from inside the roof space too. In the loft, the signs we look for are staining, damp, daylight and sagging, as far as the space allows. The whole visit normally takes an hour or two for a house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like South Town can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
- The roof is looked at from the ground, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.
Getting ready for the survey
- Keep pets out of the way during the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

Advice
Storm damage roof reports in South Town: local notes
Bentworth Hall, about 1.4 miles north-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around South Town. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Some Hampshire villages still have thatched roofs. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Each of these roof types has its own typical places for water to get in.
For an older house near a landmark like Church of St Andrew, lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in. If you let a flat or house near Alton station, a tenant living with a leak needs the cause found, not just the stain painted over.
South Town is about 4 miles west of Alton, in Hampshire. Surveys in South Town work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful inspection, photos and a written report. Do you need a storm damage roof report in South Town?
Others book after an insurer has queried a claim. An independent report gives you another view of the roof. What happens next is up to the insurer.
Signs worth acting on include:
- Lifted or missing ridge and hip tiles
- Loose or torn flashings
- Flat roof edges peeled back
- Slates and tiles blown off the roof
Take a building like Medstead Church of England Primary School: tracing a leak on a big roof starts with where the water appears and works back.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- Whether VAT is added on top
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- When you will get the report
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely
FAQs for South Town
Do you cover smaller places like South Town?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route as you book.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in South Town?
We can’t confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
What does a storm damage report cost?
Our reports start from £150. Larger roofs are quoted for their size. The report doesn’t include repair costs.
What wind speed counts as a storm?
Each policy has its own definition. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but check your own wording.
What do I do if water is coming in?
Emergency cover over a damaged roof should be arranged with a roofer. If it is safe, photograph the damage before it’s covered. Keep receipts for any emergency work.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What this survey can’t tell you
Our findings are based on what we can see safely on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
- Repair costs or quotes for the work
- A decision on your insurance claim
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
