Need a storm damage roof report in Stonecrouch?

Can I check my roof myself?

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You will not see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Storm damage roof report in Stonecrouch

We inspect the roof from wherever it can be seen safely: from ground level, from windows and higher points, from the loft space and from the roof where it is safe. We photograph and describe each area of damage. We note any part we couldn’t see. You get a written report with photographs to give to your insurer. Typical surveys look at holes or cracks caused by debris and damaged ridges and hips, on flashings, flat roofs and ridges and hips.

Being in a small place like Stonecrouch makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. Let us know where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, along with any repairs done before. If you have photographs of the water coming in, they help as well.

With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Before temporary repairs, photograph the damage from ground level if it is safe. Those photos show the damage as it was. For older village homes like those around Stonecrouch, the right replacement materials aren’t always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

Common questions in Stonecrouch

Does a conservation area affect roof work in Stonecrouch?

Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.

Will you come out to Stonecrouch?

Yes, Stonecrouch is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Is this an asbestos survey?

No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.

Is there a set wind speed for storm damage?

Each policy has its own definition. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but check your own wording.

What if my insurer declines the claim?

Raise it with your insurer first. The Financial Ombudsman Service may look at it if that doesn’t resolve it. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

How long does the survey take?

Most surveys take about one to two hours at a house, and longer if the damage is spread across a large roof. The report follows by email.

Will you go up on the roof?

Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed.

The survey, step by step

We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the loft space where it can be reached. In total, it takes between one and two hours for most homes, depending on how much of the roof was hit. In a small place like Stonecrouch, access is typically the main thing to plan. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. You tell us what happened and whether a roofer has made the roof safe.
  2. Inside, we look for signs of water in the loft and rooms below.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it is safe.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Find any records of previous roof work
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in
