Storm damage roof reports for Walsworth homes and businesses

Leave it or get it looked at?

Once the storm has passed, damage that looked minor can let water in for months. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is normally better. Around Walsworth, a leak in an older house can soak into timbers and plaster, which is far harder to put right than the roof fault itself.

Prices start from £150, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, access and the package you choose.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Walsworth

When a storm has damaged your roof, a written record can help you explain it to your insurer. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We are not loss adjusters, and we cannot say whether a claim will be paid. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. We survey flashings, chimney stacks and gutters and fascias, and people most often book us about flat roof edges peeled back and new damp or leaks inside.

Houses in smaller places like Walsworth can stand more in the open, so wind and driving rain find any weakness in ridges, verges and flashings. If a leak shows only when the wind is in a certain direction, that is a useful clue. Tell us when it happens when you get in touch. The gutters on the most exposed side can overflow too.

We keep jargon out of it: where something needs attention, it says so plainly, along with how urgent it is.

How the survey changes by roof type

Slate roofs

In high winds, slates can slip or go, frequently where nails have rusted. Our report notes moved slates and any sign of older corrosion.

Lead flashings

Flashings with older defects frequently fail in high winds. Our report separates fresh damage from older wear where we can.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

If you have a loft with safe access, take a look inside. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.

Questions from Walsworth

Is Walsworth within the area you cover?

Yes. Walsworth is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We work right across London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

How do I find out if my home in Walsworth is listed?

Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?

Yes. Shared roofs just need a little more planning, with the building owner or managing agent. Mention it when you contact us and we will explain what’s needed.

Do you test for asbestos?

No. We do not sample or test for asbestos. The report may flag materials that could contain asbestos on buildings built or refurbished before 2000.

Are you loss adjusters?

No. We are not loss adjusters and do not act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Just let us know the days that suit you.

How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?

Each policy has its own definition. Many treat gusts of about 55 mph as storm conditions, but check your own wording.

Useful tips for Walsworth property owners

Most of what helps is simple and safe from ground level. Our suggestions:

  • Check how your policy defines a storm
  • Keep any slates, tiles or debris that fall, if it’s safe to do so
  • File receipts for anything you pay for
  • Get a roofer to make the roof safe if needed

The report is emailed to you, and you decide what to send to your insurer. We don’t deal with the insurer on your behalf.

Clear gutters and outlets before the stormy months. Blocked drainage can add water damage to wind damage.

Leaks and storm damage in Walsworth

In this part of the South East, older roofs are mostly slate or clay tile and many newer ones concrete tile, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Knowing the roof type helps narrow down where water may be getting in. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, so the council is the place to ask.

Living close to Butts Close is pleasant, but mature trees mean leaves in gutters and valleys each autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Walsworth means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Take an older house close to St Faith's Church: lead flashings, valleys and old chimneys are typical places for water to get in.

What happens on the day

A survey visit follows a simple order: we listen to what’s been worrying you, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It usually takes about one to two hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Walsworth is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there’s access, for water damage.
  3. We view the roof from safe positions.
  4. Storm damage and older wear are recorded separately where we can.
  5. You receive the written report with photos.
