Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in West Tisted
Our storm damage report gives you an independent, written record of how a storm has affected your roof. It sets out what is damaged, with photographs, and what we think the likely cause is. You can then give it to your insurer with your claim. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. We are not loss adjusters and can’t say whether a claim will be paid. If you’ve noticed damaged flat roof membrane and stains appearing after strong winds, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney stacks, flat roofs and ridges and hips alike.
Roofs in small places like West Tisted frequently stand in the open, so storms hit ridges, verges and chimneys hard. Damp in old stone, brick or timber walls is slow to dry out, which makes finding the cause quickly worthwhile. A written record also helps if you need to explain it to anyone else.
After the visit, you get a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

How the survey works
We don’t take risks to get a closer look. Everything that can be seen safely is inspected, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Somewhere like West Tisted needs a little journey planning: let us know about lanes, gates and parking. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it’s safe.
- We start with the details: when the storm hit and what damage you can see.
- We view the roof from wherever it can safely be seen, including the loft where there’s access.
- We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
- We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- The findings are written up with photos for you to share with your insurer.
How to prepare
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we are looking at
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
- Make sure the loft hatch can be reached

Advice
West Tisted questions
Is my home in West Tisted listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Is West Tisted within the area you cover?
We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.
What wind speed counts as a storm?
It depends on your policy. Many use gusts of about 55 mph, but each policy sets its own definition. Check your policy wording.
Does your report mean my claim will be accepted?
Only your insurer can decide that. Our report records what is damaged, with photos, and the likely cause, which you can pass to your insurer.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from ground level, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. Anything we cannot see is noted in the report.
Are you loss adjusters?
No. We are not loss adjusters and don’t act for you with the insurer. We give you an independent report of the damage for you to send to your insurer.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, if the freeholder or managing agent agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Signs you need a storm damage roof report in West Tisted
Roofs that were already worn are more likely to suffer in a storm. Corroded nails on slate roofs, worn mortar on ridges and old flashings can all give way. We record recent damage alongside older defects.
It’s worth booking a survey if you’ve seen:
- Damaged ridges and hips
- Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
- Lead lifted at abutments
- Damaged gutters and fascias
Take an older house close to Church of St Mary Magdalene: the leak may come from a chimney, a valley or tired lead rather than the covering itself.
What to check before booking
- Whether any drone flown is registered with the CAA
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours

Storm damage roof reports around West Tisted
Thatch survives on some older buildings in Hampshire’s villages. Older houses in the South East often have slate or clay tile roofs, while many later estates have concrete tiles. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. With Hinton Ampner House about 3.6 miles west, West Tisted sits in an area with a long building history. If yours is one of the older homes, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof.

Why get it checked now?
A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is typically better. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices start from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, access and the package you choose.

Tips from our surveys
A little preparation and a few simple habits help. Some pointers:
- Note the date and time you first saw the damage
- File receipts for anything you pay for
- Photograph damage inside the house too
- Check how your policy defines a storm
Your insurer may send a loss adjuster to look at the damage. You will have your own independent record to refer to.
A well-maintained roof stands up to storms better. Have loose slates, tiles and flashings seen to promptly.
