Storm damage roof reports in Withermarsh Green

Storm damage roof report in Withermarsh Green: what you get

After a storm, it helps to have a clear record of what happened to your roof. Our report shows the damage in photos and says whether it looks like storm damage, wear and tear, or a mix. We’re not loss adjusters and can’t tell you if your claim will succeed. What we give you is an independent record of the roof. We survey flashings, gutters and fascias and flat roofs, and the problems we’re asked to look at most are loose or broken chimney pots and cowls and roofs hit by falling trees.

Being in a small place like Withermarsh Green makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned ahead of time. It is useful to know where the water appears, in what weather, and what you’ve seen outside, along with any repairs done before. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.

The report is yours to share with whoever needs it: your solicitor, the seller, your insurer, a roofer or the building’s managing agent.

Honest limits

Before booking, it’s worth knowing what a survey won’t do:

  • A decision on your insurance claim
  • How your policy defines a storm
  • A price for the repairs

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Slate and tile slopes
  • Flat roofs
  • Flashings
  • Chimney stacks
  • Gutters and fascias
  • Ridges and hips

The survey, step by step

When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you want to find out. After that, we look at everything we can see safely. Most surveys take an hour or two for a house, and more on a big or complicated roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Withermarsh Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints.

  1. We start with what you’ve seen and any temporary repairs.
  2. We check inside, including the loft where there is access, for water damage.
  3. The roof is inspected from the ground, windows and the roof where it’s safe.
  4. We record fresh damage and older defects.
  5. The report, with photos, is emailed to you.

How the survey changes by roof type

Ridge and hip tiles

Ridge tiles bedded in old mortar can loosen in high winds. Our report says whether it looks freshly damaged or worn over time.

Lead flashings

Old flashings that were already loose can give way in a storm. Our report separates fresh damage from older wear where we can.

Common questions in Withermarsh Green

Will you come out to Withermarsh Green?

Yes, Withermarsh Green is on our map. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

How do I find out if my home in Withermarsh Green is listed?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

Will my insurer pay out if I get a storm damage report?

We cannot say whether a claim will be paid. The decision rests with your insurer and its policy. Our report gives you an independent record of the damage and its likely cause.

Do you climb onto every roof?

Only when it’s safe. Safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.

Can I challenge a declined storm claim?

The first step is a complaint to your insurer. After that, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to look at it. An independent report can add to your evidence, but we cannot say how it will turn out.

Does this replace a RICS home survey?

No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.

Will you deal with the insurance company for me?

No. We write an independent report, and you decide how to use it. Your insurer may appoint its own loss adjuster.

Wind, rain and roofs in Withermarsh Green

Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from. Castle House, about 4.3 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Withermarsh Green. If your house is among the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.

Why it is worth a survey now in Withermarsh Green

A few slipped slates can soon lead to wet timbers. Getting it recorded and repaired sooner is usually better. Around Withermarsh Green, older homes often have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.

Take a look at how roof surveys are priced and what we found on two real jobs.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

A DIY look is useful, but it isn’t a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are frequently out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Withermarsh Green?

Insurers often want evidence of what has been damaged and why. A written report with photos gives you something clear to pass on. Your insurer still makes the decision.

Typical things we’re asked to look at include:

  • Damaged pots on the stack
  • Damaged gutters and fascias
  • Flat roof edges peeled back
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof

In and around Withermarsh Green, as anywhere, a roof is easiest to deal with when its problems are found early.
