How a drone roof survey works in Withermarsh Green

They suit tall buildings, steep or large roofs and roofs that are hard to see from the ground. They’re useful where walking on the roof could damage it or isn’t safe. The roof is photographed without being disturbed. Ahead of the visit, we check the address for any airspace restrictions that apply. We will tell you if another approach would work better. If you’ve noticed wind damage high on the roof and debris building up in hidden gutters, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flat roofs on upper floors, chimney stacks and tall and steep roofs alike.

In a small place like Withermarsh Green, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.

The report works through the roof section by section, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Tips that help

Getting the most from a drone roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:

  • Shut pets inside while we fly
  • Mention anything you’ve noticed on the roof
  • Keep a clear space in the garden or drive for take-off
  • Expect us to rearrange if it’s too windy or wet

With the Premium Survey, the report arrives the same day. It includes the drone photos where a flight was possible, alongside the other checks in the package.

Keep the roof space ventilated. Poor airflow lets condensation build up. Check insulation does not block the airflow.

How the survey works

There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes an hour or two at a house, including the airspace and weather checks before take-off. Somewhere as small as Withermarsh Green, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Weekday and weekend visits are available.

  1. We start with the address and what you’d like checked.
  2. We check the airspace and seek any permission needed.
  3. On the day, we check the wind, weather and site before flying.
  4. The drone photographs the roof closely, kept in sight throughout.
  5. You receive a written report with the photos and our recommendations.

How to prepare

  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
  • Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared

Drones, thermal imaging and Withermarsh Green roofs

We fly a sub-250g drone and are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Open category rules keep flights below 120 m (400 ft) and the drone within sight at all times. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, with post-war and more recent estates making up much of the newer housing. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from the ground, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

Whatever the street in Withermarsh Green, a roof costs least to look after when faults are caught early.

FAQs for Withermarsh Green

Do you cover smaller places like Withermarsh Green?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Is my home in Withermarsh Green listed or in a conservation area?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.

Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Do drone rules differ in central London?

Central London has restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs, where flights need permission from NATS. We check before every flight and seek permission where needed.

How long does the visit take?

Expect it to take between one and two hours at most homes, and more on a big or complicated roof. That includes checking the site and the weather before take-off.

What happens after the survey?

The report arrives by email, with photographs and clear recommendations. With Standard there is a follow-up consultation; with Premium, an in-person consultation, so you can talk the findings through.

Can you fly a drone near an airport?

That depends on where the roof is. Inside a flight restriction zone, we need permission first, which can add time. Book early if you think you may be affected.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Withermarsh Green

Landlords, agents and building managers in Withermarsh Green and across Essex can book any of our surveys. To discuss a property or a block, ring 07833 053749 or email us.

A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey helps you spot issues early and plan the work with less disruption.

What happens if roof problems are left?

Leaving a high roof unchecked means relying on what you can see from below. A drone replaces that guesswork with clear photos, slope by slope. It’s far easier to plan work when you can see the problem. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That is one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.

Bigger, taller and commercial roofs take more time to survey, so the price reflects that. The price is confirmed before you book.

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Your own check is a good start, but it is not a survey. From ground level, valleys, flashings and the backs of chimneys are often out of sight, and those are details a survey looks at closely.

Signs you need a drone roof survey in Withermarsh Green

The top of a stack is the most exposed part of many roofs. Cracked flaunching, loose pots and eroded pointing are frequently invisible from below. Close-up drone photos show their condition.

We’re often asked to look at:

  • Slipped or missing slates on a high roof
  • Moss building up on slopes and in gutters
  • Ridge and hip pieces working loose
  • Chimney tops in poor condition

Castle House lies about 4.3 miles south-east, so building around Withermarsh Green goes back a long way. Aerial photos and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What insurance they carry
  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
