Leaks and storm damage in Wonersh
About 1.7 miles north lies Chilworth Manor, a reminder of how long the area around Wonersh has been built on. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. Many older homes in Surrey have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung upper walls. Horsham stone slab roofs survive on some old buildings in Surrey. The covering and its details give the first clues when tracing where water is coming from.
Anyone responsible for a site like Bramley CofE Aided Infant School and Nursery will know that on a building that size, finding the source of a drip means looking well beyond the stain. If you live in an older home near Wonersh United Reformed Church, leaks on older roofs frequently start at lead flashings, valleys or around old chimney stacks. Landlords with a home close to Chilworth station may find that tracing a leak quickly matters when a tenant is living with it.

How a storm damage roof report works in Wonersh
What counts as a storm depends on your policy, though many use gusts of about 55 mph. Your policy document sets out its own definition. Whether the weather met it is for your insurer. We record the damage and what seems to have caused it. The report includes photographs of each area of damage, and you decide what to send. Insurers decide claims on their own policy wording. Common reasons to book are ridge tiles that have come loose and damaged gutters and fascias, on flat roofs, ridges and hips and chimney stacks.
Being in a small place like Wonersh makes no difference to how a leak or storm damage is looked at: the journey and access are just planned in advance. Tell us where the water shows, when it appears and anything you’ve noticed outside, plus any earlier repairs. Photos of the stain and of the roof from outside are helpful too.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, each with a short note and a photograph. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Wonersh: your questions answered
Do you cover smaller places like Wonersh?
Yes, Wonersh is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
How do I find out if my home in Wonersh is listed?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you’re planning to re-roof in a different material.
How do I arrange a storm damage roof report in Wonersh?
Just call 07833 053749 or email us. We will ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Can you survey at the weekend?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when you book.
How long will you be at the property?
Time on site depends on the roof, but most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home, and longer for a large or complex roof. The report is sent afterwards by email.
Do you look in the loft space?
If there’s a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that cannot be seen from outside.
How are storm damage reports priced?
A storm damage report starts from £150. Commercial and larger roofs are quoted on size. Repair costs are not part of the report.

What you can safely check yourself
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
What happens on the day
After the inspection, everything we found is written up in a report with photos, sent to you by email. As for time on site, most surveys take between one and two hours on an ordinary house, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like Wonersh, a postcode doesn’t always lead to the right gate, so a few directions, or a note of a nearby landmark, help us arrive on time. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- You tell us when the storm was and what damage you’ve seen.
- The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows and from the roof space where it’s safe.
- The damage is recorded with photographs, area by area.
- We check whether the damage fits storm damage, older wear or both.
- We send you a written report with photos, ready to give to your insurer.
Before we arrive
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- Leave side gates unlocked

When you need someone else
Before booking, it is worth knowing what a survey will not do:

- Repair costs or quotes for the work
- The work of a loss adjuster appointed by your insurer
