Storm damage roof reports for Worth homes and businesses

DIY checks: what’s safe

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That is where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where applicable.

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Storm damage roof reports for homes and businesses in Worth

If your roof has been damaged, stay safe first. Take photos from the ground or from windows, and do not climb onto the roof. Emergency temporary protection, such as covering an opening, is a job for a roofer. Our report records the damage so you have an independent record to give your insurer. Keep receipts for any emergency work. We survey slate and tile slopes, flashings and chimney stacks, and common reasons people get in touch are stains appearing after strong winds and ridge tiles that have come loose.

Around Worth, chimneys on older homes are a common source of leaks, at the flashings, the pointing or the mortar round the pots. Damp on a chimney breast isn’t always rain from above, which is why it is worth tracing properly. It’s worth looking at the stack from outside and at the timbers beside it in the loft.

How fast the report arrives depends on the package: the Basic Survey within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey on the same day.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Worth

We also survey roofs for businesses and commercial landlords. Larger roofs take longer.

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants, at a time agreed in advance. We survey seven days a week, which helps when tenants work during the week.

Leave it or get it looked at?

Before temporary repairs, photograph the damage from the ground if it’s safe. That keeps a record of how it looked. With lower homes, common in places like Worth, there’s little between a roof defect and the ceiling, so a small leak can mark a ceiling within a few storms. Finding the cause first saves a second job inside.

Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Our price is from £150, including VAT. Where your roof sits in the range depends on its size, height and access.

What you get with us

What happens on the day

The visit has one job: to see as much of the roof as can be seen safely and record it clearly. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Being in a smaller place like Worth does not change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. It’s useful to show us anything you’ve already noticed.

  1. First you give us the date of the storm and what you’ve noticed, inside and out.
  2. We view the roof from wherever it can be seen safely, including the loft where there’s access.
  3. We photograph and record every area of damage we can see.
  4. The likely cause is recorded, along with any evidence of older wear.
  5. You get a written report you can pass to your insurer.

Before the survey

  • For flats, check roof access has been agreed
  • Keep pets in another room
  • If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in

Leaks and storm damage in Worth

Many older homes in Sussex have handmade clay tiles and tile-hung walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. Where water gets in depends a good deal on what the roof is made of and how it’s detailed. Worth is part of Crawley, one of the post-war new towns. Many homes in the new towns date from the post-war decades, with concrete interlocking tiles, low-pitched roofs and flat-roofed garages and porches. Low pitches let wind-driven rain reach further under the tiles, and flat-roofed garages and porches are common leak points.

If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near County Mall, water through a ceiling can damage stock and close a sales floor, so the source needs finding fast. For landlords with property near Three Bridges station, a clear finding on where water gets in helps you brief a roofer straight away.

Worth is about 2 miles east of Crawley, in West Sussex. Worth gets the same service as everywhere else we work: a careful inspection, photographs and a written report. Across West Sussex, we cover Worth.

FAQs for Worth

Is my home in Worth listed or in a conservation area?

Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.

My home in Worth has a flat-roofed garage or porch. Is it worth having that looked at?

Frequently, yes, so mention it when booking. Many homes in new towns like Crawley have flat-roofed garages and porches, and felt roofs often last around 15–20 years.

Do you work in Worth?

Yes. We cover Worth and the rest of West Sussex. For a price, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take about one to two hours for a house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. You will then get the report by email, on the timescale of your package.

Do you need to get into the loft?

Where it’s relevant to the survey and there is safe access, yes. A clear path to the hatch helps.

How strong does the wind have to be for a storm claim?

Each policy has its own definition. About 55 mph is a common figure in many policies, but check your own wording.

What if my insurer declines the claim?

Start by complaining to the insurer. If it is not resolved, the Financial Ombudsman Service may be able to help. The Ombudsman looks at whether there were storm conditions, whether the damage fits a storm and whether the storm was the main cause.

Do you need a storm damage roof report in Worth?

Landlords and managing agents book reports to keep a record for owners and insurers. The report can be shared with owners, tenants or insurers.

Typical things we are asked to look at include:

  • Flashings pulled away from walls or stacks
  • Slates and tiles blown off the roof
  • Loose or broken chimney pots and cowls
  • Torn or lifted flat roof coverings

Historic houses like Gravetye Manor, about 4.2 miles south-east, show how far back building around Worth goes. On older roofs nearby, leaks often trace back to lead flashings, valleys and gutters.
