About our thermal roof survey in Allhallows
Thermal imaging is frequently most useful on flat roofs, from small extensions to large commercial roofs. Patterns can suggest where water is trapped under the covering. On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can hide what’s below, so we also look from the loft where we can reach it safely. If you’re worried about cold areas below the roof and damp patches with no obvious cause, we can find out what’s behind it.
Villages like Allhallows often stand in open country, where wind can be strong. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible.

Why act early in Allhallows
If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. Outbuildings and barns around Allhallows are easy to forget, but a failed roof there can spoil what’s stored inside. It is worth including them in a survey before a winter does the damage.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the written report is part of the package. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.

What we look for on each type of roof
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We allow for reflections and confirm findings with moisture readings.
Felt and asphalt flat roofs
These coverings sit directly on the layers beneath, so temperature differences often show through. We confirm any patterns with moisture readings.
Tips that help
Getting the most from a thermal roof survey starts before we arrive and carries on afterwards. Some tips:
- Talk to us about the weather when booking
- Photograph damp patches with the date
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Let us know where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
We note the weather and surface conditions, and how they may have affected the results. It helps you judge how firm each finding is.
Check that loft insulation is laid evenly and hasn’t been pushed aside. Insulation is often moved when people work in the roof space.
Common questions in Allhallows
Is Allhallows within the area you cover?
Yes, Allhallows is covered. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Is my home in Allhallows listed or in a conservation area?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, as long as access is agreed. The roof of a block or converted house is frequently shared, so whoever owns or manages the building needs to agree access. We inspect only the parts we are allowed to reach.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 5,000 surveys so far, across 20+ years of surveying roofs, with 98% customer satisfaction.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. We explain what the images can and can’t tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
What does the report include?
Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies and structural analysis.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not unless it’s safe. Most of what we need can be seen from safe viewpoints, the loft and, where applicable, a drone, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
How we price thermal roof surveys
Survey packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
Every price we give includes VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the price for the job before booking.
Booking your survey
You do not need to know any roofing terms. It’s enough to tell us:
- Dates you are working to, such as exchange
- Whether there’s a loft hatch, a shared roof or tricky access
- The address and postcode of the property
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the roof’s size, access and the package, so ring 07833 053749 or email us with the details.
The survey, step by step
The aim of the visit is simple: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. It normally takes about 1–2 hours for most houses; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. For a village or hamlet like Allhallows, the journey is planned in advance: tell us about narrow lanes, gates, long drives and where we can park. The roof is looked at from ground level, from windows, from the loft where there’s safe access and from the roof where it is safe.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Areas that look unusual on the camera are checked with moisture readings where possible.
- You get a report with thermal images, photographs and our recommendations.
How to prepare
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Point out any leaks or damp patches

Advice
Thermal roof surveys around Allhallows
The coast is about 1 mile or less from Allhallows, and coastal wind can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Across Kent, older roofs are often handmade clay or peg tiles, and tile-hanging on upper walls is a familiar sight. You will also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help.
If you look after a building such as Allhallows Primary Academy, big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
