Arpinge Thermal Roof Survey
A careful look at the roof at your property in Arpinge, with photographs and a written report.
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
Why it’s worth a survey now in Arpinge
Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, instead of trying repair after repair. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
The Premium Survey includes thermal imaging and drone inspection where applicable, from £400 with VAT included. We will tell you which package suits the questions you have.

Thermal roof survey in Arpinge: what you get
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding cannot be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. If you’ve noticed patches of heat loss across the roof and ceilings that feel colder in places, we can find out what’s behind it, on pitched roof slopes, ceilings below the roof and flat roofs alike.
Older buildings in small places like Arpinge may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Where we can’t see part of the roof, the report says so. That way, it’s clear what was covered and what wasn’t, and what we’d suggest next.

Arpinge: your questions answered
Is Arpinge within the area you cover?
Yes, Arpinge is on our map. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Do you cover Arpinge?
Yes, Arpinge is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. Just ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and tell us about the property.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and they go into the written report.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
No, not on its own. It shows surface temperature, and wet areas can show up because they hold heat differently. We confirm what it suggests with moisture readings.
Do you survey roofs on blocks of flats?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. On a shared roof we can only inspect the parts we are allowed to reach, and the report makes that clear.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey is a roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey of the whole building. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
What does the report include?
It explains what we saw, what it means and what we’d suggest, backed by photographs. It also says if any part of the roof couldn’t be seen safely.
Can I check my roof myself?
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery. That part is for a survey.
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

Drones, thermal imaging and Arpinge roofs
The coast is about 3 miles or less from Arpinge. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
Take an older house close to St Oswald's Church: steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. For site and facilities teams at buildings such as Harcourt Primary School, big roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once. Historic houses like Acrise Place, about 2.1 miles north, show how far back building around Arpinge goes. For older roofs nearby, a look from the air or with a thermal camera is a hands-off way to check condition.

Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Make sure the loft can be reached safely
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Let us know where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- Check outlets after heavy rain
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.
Check loft insulation covers the whole area and hasn’t been disturbed. Insulation is often moved when people work in the loft space.
What we look for on each type of roof
GRP fibreglass roofs
Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We combine a visual check of cracks with the thermal images around them.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
From inside the loft, the camera can help with damp around chimneys, valleys and roof windows. Findings are checked with moisture readings.
The survey, step by step
We work from the outside in: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. All told, expect an hour or two at most homes, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Around Arpinge, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We check the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
How to prepare
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- If you’re buying, let the agent know when we’re coming
