Thermal roof survey in Tower Hamlets
A thermal camera can help when the cause of damp isn’t obvious. Leaks often run along a roof before they appear on a ceiling, and the camera can show patterns that help us follow it. We combine the images with a visual inspection and moisture readings, so no conclusion rests on one method alone. Typical surveys look at ceilings that feel colder in places and damp that repairs haven’t cured, on commercial roofs, pitched roof slopes and ceilings below the roof.
In smaller places like Tower Hamlets, many homes are bungalows and houses with roofs you can partly see from ground level. The parts you cannot see, such as rear slopes, valleys and chimney tops, are where a drone or thermal camera adds detail. The forecast decides the day. Close-up images often show wear on ridges, verges and flashings that cannot be judged properly from the ground.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent.

Thermal roof surveys in Tower Hamlets: local notes
Tower Hamlets lies within about 1 mile of the sea, and wind off the sea can be strong. Thermal imaging works best after a sunny day, with a dry roof surface and little wind, so the date is chosen with the forecast in mind. Within a mile and a half or so of Tower Hamlets there are several hotels. If you look after one, a large roof can be surveyed without guests having anyone working above them.
A roof leak in a hotel or guest house around Tower Hamlets means lost rooms as well as repairs, so it pays to find faults before guests do. If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter and St Paul, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
Tower Hamlets is about 1 mile south of Dover, in Kent. We carry out thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Tower Hamlets. Our area takes in places right across Kent, large and small. We also survey roofs in Canterbury.
Postcode districts we cover here for thermal roof surveys: CT17, CT16 and CT15. Streets in the area include Cow Lane, Odo Road and Eric Road. Tower Hamlets sits on or near the A256. For a walk, there’s Dover Western Heights.
Honest limits
Every survey has limits, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer before you book. The full list of what we check.
What this survey covers
- Loft conversions
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
What we are asked to look at in Tower Hamlets
Not every roof problem shows on the surface. Trapped moisture, missing insulation and hidden heat loss are three examples. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
Things that often lead to a survey include:
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
If you look after a building such as Priory Fields School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.
Before booking any roof surveyor
- Are they insured for the work?
- Whether the loft is part of the inspection
- Is there a chance to talk the report through?
- Their report turnaround times

What you can safely check yourself
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.
Leave it or get it looked at?
For buyers, a thermal survey adds detail that a visual inspection cannot give. Hidden problems found before exchange can be raised with the seller or agent. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Tower Hamlets, so it’s useful to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. Knowing early gives you time to get the right people in.
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.

How it works
You do not need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. The survey itself takes roughly 1–2 hours at a typical home; commercial roofs usually need 3–4 hours. Some parts of a survey depend on the weather, so a visit to Tower Hamlets is booked with the forecast in mind: the parts that need calm, dry weather are planned around it.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Let us know where we can park nearby
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
- Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
Booking a survey
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or email us when you are ready.

Common questions in Tower Hamlets
How do I find out if my home in Tower Hamlets is listed?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is Tower Hamlets in the area you cover?
Yes. We work right across London and the South East, and Tower Hamlets is part of that. Just phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
How long have you been surveying roofs?
Over 20 years and more than 5,000 surveys, across London and South East England.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only where it is safe to do so. We inspect whatever is safely visible: from the ground, from windows, from inside the roof space, from the roof where it’s safe and by drone where applicable. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
How soon will I get the report?
That depends on the survey you book: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. Reports are sent by email.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
It comes with our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. It’s a specialist roof survey, not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 building survey. It focuses on the roof, so it sits alongside a building survey rather than replacing it.
