Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Arundel
Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you can’t usually tell from the surface. Moisture readings are then used to check what the camera suggests. We survey pitched roof slopes, ceilings below the roof and loft conversions, and people most often book us about gaps in loft insulation and leaks that are hard to trace.
Older cottages and houses around Arundel may have little insulation, and some have extensions with their own roofs. A thermal image can show where heat is escaping or where moisture may be trapped, and drone photos show the roof surfaces themselves. Anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter. Calm, dry weather suits both methods, so the date is set with the forecast in mind.
After the visit, you get a report with photographs, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Common questions in Arundel
Do you cover smaller places like Arundel?
We do. Villages and rural addresses get the same survey as a town house.
Is my home in Arundel listed or in a conservation area?
Historic England’s list shows listed buildings, and the local council can tell you about conservation areas. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We inspect everything that’s safely in view: from the ground, from windows and vantage points, from the roof space, from the roof itself where safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Is thermal imaging good for finding leaks?
It often helps show where to look. Water can travel under a covering before it shows inside, and temperature patterns can help follow it. It is used alongside a close inspection and moisture readings, as the camera alone cannot prove a leak.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: Monday to Friday, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you as you book.
Will the camera show exactly where the water is?
Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
What’s in the report?
Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. Standard adds moisture detection and a structural check; Premium adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

What we look for on each type of roof
Pitched slate and tile roofs
From inside the loft, the camera can help with damp around chimneys, valleys and roof windows. We check any patterns with moisture readings.
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Thin membranes can show patterns from the layers beneath. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.
Why get it checked now?
A damp patch that keeps coming back normally has a cause that hasn’t been found. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, instead of trying repair after repair. Tradespeople may need to travel further to a smaller place like Arundel, so it helps to plan roof work rather than call someone out in a hurry. A survey gives you that notice.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. Basic starts from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, VAT included, and we’ll tell you which fits.

How the survey works
You don’t need to do much on the day. Point out anything you’ve noticed, such as stains, drips or loose pieces, and we’ll take it from there. A typical survey takes about 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Being in a smaller place like Arundel doesn’t change how the visit works: outside, inside and from any safe vantage point, in that order. Point out any stains, cracks or loose pieces you’ve spotted.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Getting ready for the survey
- Buyers: confirm access with the estate agent or seller
- Gather any invoices or paperwork from past roof work
- If the roof is shared, arrange access with whoever manages the building
How to book
Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so you have the findings in time to act on them before you exchange. For any other survey, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email when you’re ready.
Related advice
Can I check my roof myself?
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
How we price thermal roof surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. This is what makes a difference:
- The package you choose: Basic, Standard or Premium
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- How many separate roofs there are, such as extensions, dormers and garages
Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, access and which survey you book.
Getting in touch

Flying and imaging in Arundel
The coast is about 4 miles or less from Arundel. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. Arundel has a number of hotels within about a mile and a half, and like offices and blocks, hotels often sit under flat roofs. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
If you live in an older home near Trinity Congregational Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement. For hotels and guest houses around Arundel, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest, so it pays to find faults before guests do. Historic houses like Ecclesden Manor, about 4.3 miles south-east, show how far back building around Arundel goes. Photos from the air and thermal images let an old roof be checked without anyone disturbing it.
