Thermal roof survey in Cheshunt: what you get

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, making it clear where on the roof each pattern is. We explain what each pattern may mean, what the moisture readings found and what we recommend. Premium reports are sent the same day. You can talk the findings through with us at the in-person consultation. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. Common reasons to book are patches of heat loss across the roof and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, across commercial roofs, pitched roof slopes and insulated roof spaces.

For a town like Cheshunt, every drone flight starts with a check of the Drone Safety Map, including zones around airports and prisons. Our drone weighs under 250g, and we are a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID). Neighbours’ privacy is part of planning every flight. Flights stay below 120 m (400 ft) and within sight, as the open category requires.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. It’s useful straight away, and a good reference for later, for example when you want to check whether anything has changed.

Surveys for landlords and agents in Cheshunt

Letting agents can arrange access with tenants. We survey on weekdays and at weekends, which helps when tenants work during the week.

An agent can book and manage the survey for a landlord, with the report sent to whoever needs it. We agree a time with the tenant beforehand.

Airspace, weather and Cheshunt roofs

With Forty Hall about 3 miles south, Cheshunt sits in an area with a long building history. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area. If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.

Take a building like Andrews Lane Primary School: big roofs are where photos from the air and thermal images show the most at once. If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near St Mary the Virgin, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

Cheshunt is about 14 miles north of City of Westminster, in Hertfordshire. Cheshunt is part of the area we cover as part of our work across London and South East England. Our area takes in places right across Hertfordshire, from the larger towns to small villages. There is also a page for London.

We cover every part of EN7 and EN8 for thermal roof surveys and the streets around it. Whether your property is on Marlborough Square, High Street and Flamstead End Road or a nearby road, we can help. Cheshunt is on the A10 and B156, so it’s easy for us to get to. Nearby, we also carry out thermal roof surveys in Churchgate (1 mile south), Turnford (1 mile north-east), Goff's Oak (2 miles west), Wormley (2 miles north-east) and Wormley West End (2 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Watford (15 miles west), Stevenage (15 miles north-west), St Albans (12 miles west), Bishop's Stortford (14 miles north-east), Welwyn Garden City (9 miles north-west) and Harpenden (15 miles north-west). Being one of Hertfordshire’s larger places, Cheshunt has every kind of building, from houses and flats to offices.

When you need someone else

Before you book, it’s worth knowing what a survey will not do:

  • Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • An energy rating for the building

If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will give you a straight answer. What our survey covers.

What this survey covers

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Commercial roofs
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Loft conversions
  • Flat roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof

Tips from our surveys

You do not need to be a roofer to help. Here’s what helps most:

  • Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
  • Move stored items away from the loft hatch
  • Use the report as a baseline for later checks
  • Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare

Buyers can use the findings when talking to the seller or agent. It is your decision how to use it, whether that’s asking for work or discussing the price.

Consider a repeat survey after major work on the roof, when the conditions are suitable.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Cheshunt

How should I get ready for a visit in Cheshunt?

The main thing is access, inside and out, plus somewhere to park in Cheshunt. Let us know about known leaks or past repairs as well.

Is my home in Cheshunt listed or in a conservation area?

The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. It’s worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.

Do you survey on Saturdays and Sundays?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day, which suits people who work during the week. Let us know your preferred days as you book.

Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?

Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. The difference is clearest when the building is heated and it is colder outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.

What does the report include?

Written findings with photos, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Are you structural engineers?

No. Our survey isn’t a structural engineer’s report, and it doesn’t include calculations. We will recommend an engineer if we see signs that call for one.

What you can safely check yourself

It’s useful to keep a record: dates of leaks, photos from the ground and any work done on the roof. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.

During heavy rain, look at the gutters from ground level or a window. Water spilling over the edge can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.

What we do, step by step

Expect us to ask a few questions before we start, such as when any problem began and what work has been done before. The inspection then takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Semi-detached and terraced homes in a town like Cheshunt often share a roof line with the neighbours, so we check what can be seen of the shared parts from your side. Let us know about any known leaks, past repairs or building work when booking, so time on site goes where it’s needed.

  1. First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
  2. We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
  3. Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.

Getting ready for the survey

  • Keep pets in another room
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street

Advice

Leave it or get it looked at?

Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Roof faults found early can be planned for, while one found after water comes through normally has to be dealt with in a hurry, in Cheshunt as anywhere.

All our prices include VAT. Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. We confirm the exact price before booking.
