Thermal imaging roof survey in Ebernoe, West Sussex
Find out the condition of the roof at your property in Ebernoe. Visits run on weekdays and weekends, in the daytime.
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
Different roofs, different checks
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
Because these membranes are thin, patterns from below frequently show. Reflections from shiny surfaces can affect readings, which we allow for.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s happening underneath. We combine the images with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
How a thermal roof survey works in Ebernoe
On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. So a wet patch can show as a warmer or cooler area on the camera. This can give an idea of how far water has travelled beneath the membrane, which is hard to judge by eye. We then check those areas with moisture readings. Typical surveys look at leaks that are hard to trace and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, across commercial roofs, flat roofs and pitched roof slopes.
In a small place like Ebernoe, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. If the day turns windy or wet, the visit can be moved.
It isn’t only a list of defects. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can decide what to do next.

What a survey costs
When we price a survey, we consider:
- Building height and the viewpoints available
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
- Roof area
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. The price is always agreed first.
What we need to know
A little information up front helps. It’s useful to include:
- Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- Any marks or damp showing indoors
- When you need the report by
Not sure which survey you need? The easiest way is to phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and describe the roof and what’s worrying you. We’ll talk you through the options and what they cost.
Ebernoe questions
Do you cover smaller places like Ebernoe?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Is my home in Ebernoe listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. It is worth checking before planning roof work, as both can affect what’s allowed.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Asbestos surveys and testing are not part of what we do. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, like cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them and suggest a specialist asbestos surveyor checks them before any work.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We check the parts we’re given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
Not directly. It shows temperature, and wet materials often behave differently from dry ones. That is why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
Do you carry out surveys on Saturdays and Sundays?
We carry out surveys on weekdays and at weekends. To find a day that suits you, ring 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
It can help, but the results are frequently less clear than on a flat roof. The air space under slates and tiles can hide patterns, so we also look from the loft where it is safe.
What happens on the day
We check the roof from outside and, where it is relevant and there’s safe access, from inside the loft space too. Inside, we look for staining, damp, gaps and signs of movement. The whole visit normally takes about 1–2 hours for most houses, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older roofs in small places like Ebernoe can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- Thermal images are taken across the roof and, where there is safe access, in the loft.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Getting ready for the survey
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property
- Jot down any questions you want answered
Arrange a survey
A quick phone call is typically the easiest start: call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will ask a few questions about the roof. You will have a price before anything is arranged.
Advice
Flying and imaging in Ebernoe
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Historic houses such as Petworth House, about 3.7 miles south, show how far back building in the area around Ebernoe goes. If your home is one of the older ones, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
If your home is one of the older ones in the streets near Holy Trinity Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

What this survey cannot tell you
We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so there are some things a survey can’t cover:
- A formal energy assessment
- Confirming water without moisture readings
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

Roof types and parts we check
- Flat roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Ceilings below the roof
- Loft conversions
- Insulated roof spaces
- Commercial roofs
Can I check my roof myself?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can be a sign of a blockage or a gutter that has dropped.
Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Leave anything above ground level to a survey.
For landlords and managing agents
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, with the most urgent items set out first.
Businesses and commercial landlords can book us too, from shops and offices to industrial units. Bigger roofs take more time.
