Golden Green Thermal Roof Survey
Not sure what state the roof is in? You can book a thermal roof survey in Golden Green and across Kent, with plain-English findings.
- Missing or slipped insulation
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Stains that keep coming back
What we cannot see
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- A formal energy assessment
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we will tell you before you book. The full list of what we check.

Thermal roof survey in Golden Green: what you get
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We talk through the forecast as you book, and our report notes the conditions and how they affected what we saw. Common reasons to book are patches of heat loss across the roof and areas of a flat roof that may hold water, on flat roofs, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes.
Older buildings in small places like Golden Green may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.
Findings are set out part by part, from the coverings down to the gutters, with a note and a photo for each point. You will see the good as well as the bad.

Thermal roof surveys in Golden Green: local notes
Handmade clay tiles, including Kent peg tiles hung on pegs through two holes, are typical of older Kent buildings. You’ll also find oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses among the county’s older buildings. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up photos from the air and thermal images help. If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying.
If you live in an older home near Golden Green Mission Church, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. Old Soar Manor, about 3.8 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Golden Green. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from ground level, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself.

Where a roof is shared: access has to be agreed with whoever owns or manages the building. Let us know about it as you book and we will plan the visit with that in mind.

Golden Green questions
Do you cover Golden Green?
Yes, Golden Green is one of the places we work. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Golden Green?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. The answer matters most when a change of material is on the cards.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photos are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Can you survey a shared roof?
Yes, once whoever controls the roof agrees access. We look at the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
Can you use a thermal camera on a sloping roof?
On pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp patterns. We explain what the images can and can’t tell you, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. That also includes a full inspection, a drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a same-day report.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. We can flag materials that might contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What we do, step by step
We photograph the roof as we go, so the report shows exactly what we saw. Close-ups come from the safest viewpoint available. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, or half a day or so for a commercial building. Cottages and farmhouses around Golden Green often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. We work round each section in turn, from the safest viewpoints, and anything we can’t see is noted.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- We inspect the roof and take thermal images during the same visit.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
Arrange a survey
If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To get started, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Advice
Tips from our surveys
Small things make a difference. Our tips:
- Clear leaves from outlets and gutters each autumn
- Check the loft can be reached safely
- Keep a record of when stains appear
- Leave the roof to people with safe access
Where a pattern can’t be confirmed, the report says what could help, such as electronic leak detection or opening up a small area.
Watch for new damp patches on ceilings beneath the roof. Early action keeps insulation from staying wet.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Golden Green?
Some defects simply can’t be seen with the eye. Wet insulation, gaps in insulation and heat loss are often invisible from outside. A thermal camera adds another way of finding them.
Common reasons to book include:
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
- Stains that keep coming back
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
Take a building like Hadlow Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.
Before booking anyone
- Their track record with similar roofs
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
- Are they insured for the work?
- How they plan to inspect the roof safely

What affects the price in Golden Green
We confirm the price for the job before you book. These are the things that affect it:
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.
