Parker's Green questions
Do you cover smaller places like Parker's Green?
Yes, Parker's Green is covered. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Parker's Green?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. Both listing and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The Premium Survey also covers a full inspection, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and a report on the same day.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it’s safe. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. We use safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where applicable.
How many surveys have you done?
We have more than 20 years’ experience and have completed over 5,000 surveys across London and the South East.
What happens next?
The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.
Will thermal imaging find my leak?
It frequently helps show where to look. Patterns can suggest where trapped water has spread. We combine it with a visual inspection and moisture readings because the camera can’t confirm water on its own.

Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. It is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. We survey pitched roof slopes, commercial roofs and ceilings below the roof, and people most frequently book us about cold spots on ceilings under the roof and water getting in at parapets and stacks.
In a village or hamlet like Parker's Green, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned ahead of time. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
After the visit, you get a report with photos, sent by email. It sets out the condition of the roof, any defects and our written recommendations.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
You can learn a lot from the ground. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Never climb onto the roof to look.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey.

What happens on the day
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Around Parker's Green, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. We only go where it’s safe.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it’s safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Before we arrive
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Check we can get to the back of the property

When you need someone else
This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What we look at
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Ceilings below the roof
- Flat roofs
Leave it or get it looked at?
Thermal images can suggest the extent of wet areas without cutting into the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. For an older or listed building in a place like Parker's Green, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so leaving a defect until it is urgent leaves less time to plan.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package you pick makes a difference too. The price is always agreed first.

When to book a survey in Parker's Green
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Owners want to know how far it has spread before deciding what to do. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Stains that keep coming back
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Wet insulation beneath the membrane
If you look after a building such as Woodlands Primary School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
Choosing a roof surveyor
- What follow-up you get after the report
- Whether the inside of the roof is included
- Whether you get a written report with photos
- What the survey will not cover

Practical tips
There is plenty you can do without going near the roof. Here’s what helps most:
- Use the report as a baseline for later checks
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Check the loft can be reached safely
- Heat the home normally on the days before
You also get an in-person consultation with a Premium Survey, giving you the chance to talk through the images and findings. There is a 12-month follow-up too.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
