Thermal imaging roof survey in Headley, Hampshire
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out thermal roof surveys in Headley and across Hampshire.
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Leaks that are hard to trace
Prices for thermal roof surveys in Headley
Prices always include VAT. The things that change the price are:
- The use of thermal imaging or a drone
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
Booking your survey
There is no need for technical words. Just tell us:
- Pictures from the garden or a window, if you have them
- What made you get in touch
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The type of building and roof, like pitched or flat
Most bookings start with a short call: call 07833 053749 or email us. The price is agreed before a date is set.
Thermal roof survey in Headley: what you get
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. Sun, shade, reflective surfaces and wind can all change what the camera shows. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. Typical surveys look at heat escaping through the roof and stains that keep coming back, across insulated roof spaces, commercial roofs and ceilings below the roof.
Some older homes in villages like Headley are listed or in a conservation area. A look by drone or thermal camera doesn’t touch the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
With the Standard Survey, you also get moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey goes further, with thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Roof by roof
Single-ply and EPDM roofs
On big single-ply roofs, the camera helps show where to take readings. That makes the survey more focused.
GRP fibreglass roofs
GRP roofs are laid over timber boards, so trapped moisture can affect the deck. Thermal imaging can suggest where that may be happening.
Before and after the survey
These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:
- Take photos of stains as they appear, so we can compare
- Check from ground level or a window, never by climbing
- Let us know where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- Ask us about the forecast if rain is expected
Many people send the report to roofers, who can then quote for the areas shown. Each thermal image is matched to a normal photo, so the areas are easy to locate.
After repairs or a new covering, a later survey can confirm things are dry in suitable weather.
Airspace, weather and Headley roofs
Listing and conservation areas can both shape what roof work is allowed on an older home. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand, before anyone quotes for re-roofing. If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first.
If you live in an older home near Church of All Saints, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that’s where a view from above or with a thermal imager helps. If you look after a building such as The Holme Church of England Primary School, a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

Headley questions
Will you come out to Headley?
Yes, we do. We survey roofs across London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Headley?
For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
What’s in the report?
You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. Points are put by urgency where it matters.
How long will you be at the property?
Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. The report follows by email.
Does this replace a RICS home survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our surveys are covered by professional indemnity and public liability insurance. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Gaps and thin areas of insulation can show up on the camera. It shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. Where we can reach the loft safely, we check there too.
What we do, step by step
Every roof is different, but as a rough guide the survey takes between one and two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. You’re welcome to ask questions while we’re there. In a hamlet or village like Headley, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
How to prepare
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
- Clear the way to the loft hatch
- Make sure we can get to the back of the property

Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Fresh stains on ceilings or walls after rain are worth noting. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we look at the roof.
Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book and it will help the survey.
Why act early in Headley
Without thermal imaging, the only way to see how far water has spread is frequently to open up the roof. It helps when deciding whether to patch an area or replace the roof. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Headley, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.
Prices quoted always include VAT, and the report isn’t charged as an extra. Prices start from £400, including VAT. Size, height and access decide where your roof falls.
