Jevington Thermal Roof Survey
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in Jevington, with photographs and a written report.
- Stains that keep coming back
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
Before and after the survey
Most of what helps is simple and safe from the ground. A few suggestions:
- Tell us where and when you’ve seen damp or stains
- Move stored items away from the loft hatch
- Keep the report to compare against after any repair
- Check outlets after heavy rain
If the images suggest moisture that cannot be confirmed, we will say what would help next, for example electronic leak detection or a roofer opening up a small section.
Have small defects in the covering fixed early. Once water gets under a membrane, it can travel far before it appears inside.
Thermal roof survey in Jevington: what you get
A thermal survey isn’t a quick fix for every roof problem. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. Where something cannot be confirmed, we say what would help next. If you are worried about stains that keep coming back and thin or uneven insulation in the roof, we can find out what’s behind it, on ceilings below the roof, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions alike.
Some older homes in villages like Jevington are listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it’s a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
We write the report in plain English, so you don’t need to be a roofer to follow it. Photographs show what each point refers to.

When to book a survey in Jevington
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. A thermal survey, checked with moisture readings, can give a much clearer picture.
Common reasons to book include:
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
For an older house near a landmark like The Parish Church of St Andrew, steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from ground level, and that is where a view by drone or thermal camera helps.
Before booking anyone

Thermal roof surveys in Jevington: local notes
Jevington is within about 3 miles of the coast, and wind off the sea can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. Alfriston Clergy House, about 2.7 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Jevington. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, like lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
For site and facilities teams at buildings like Willingdon Community School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit.

Different roofs, different checks
GRP fibreglass roofs
Cracks in GRP can let water into the boards beneath. We look at cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there is a pattern around them.
Loft insulation
From inside the loft, thermal imaging can show gaps in insulation and cold spots. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.
Jevington: your questions answered
How do I find out if my home in Jevington is listed?
Check Historic England’s online list first, then ask the council about conservation areas and any Article 4 direction. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.
Is Jevington in the area you cover?
Yes. We cover the whole of London and South East England, and Jevington is part of that. You can ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and a few details, and we’ll talk through which survey suits.
What happens next?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
How quickly is the report sent?
Each package has its own report time. Basic is within 48 hours, Standard is 24–48 hours and Premium is the same day. If you have a deadline, such as an exchange date, tell us when you book.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To find a day that suits you, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. Our survey looks at the roof, not the whole building. For the rest of the building, a RICS home survey is a separate job.
What’s the best way to book?
Simply ring 07833 053749 or email us. We’ll ask a few questions, confirm the price and agree a date.
Honest limits
Some things can’t be seen without opening up the roof, and that sets some limits:
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can phone 07833 053749 or send us an email and we’ll tell you. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
Roof types and parts we check
- Insulated roof spaces
- Commercial roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Pitched roof slopes
- Flat roofs
- Loft conversions
What happens on the day
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, inspect the roof from each safe vantage point, photograph what we find and make notes for the report. It normally takes about one to two hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Older roofs in small places like Jevington can have low, tight loft spaces, so it helps to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there’s safe access.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.
Before the survey
- If it isn’t your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Advice
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
