Book a thermal roof survey in Little Burstead

Why get it checked now?

Before replacing a large flat roof, it helps to know how much of it is actually wet. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you spend. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Little Burstead, driving rain gets into any weakness, and older walls, once damp, take a long time to dry.

To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or email us with the address and a few details. The price is agreed before a date is set.

Thermal roof survey in Little Burstead: what you get

On a flat roof, wet insulation holds heat longer than dry insulation. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, which is hard to judge by eye. We then check those areas with moisture readings. Common reasons to book are missing or slipped insulation and water that travels before it shows, across flat roofs, loft conversions and commercial roofs.

In a small place like Little Burstead, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.

Report times depend on the survey you book: Basic within 48 hours, Standard in 24–48 hours and Premium the same day.

Tips that help

These tips come from what we see on roofs every week, before and after a survey:

  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • Remember the conditions on the day affect the results
  • Keep a record of when stains appear
  • Make sure the loft can be reached safely

Premium Surveys include an in-person consultation, so you can go through the images with us. A follow-up 12 months later is included as well.

Clear outlets and gutters regularly, so water doesn’t sit on the roof. Less standing water means less chance of it getting under the covering.

Thermal roof surveys around Little Burstead

If your survey includes the drone, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. Weatherboarded walls and clay tile roofs are typical of older Essex buildings, while many towns grew with post-war and newer estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

With Ingatestone Hall about 4 miles north, the area around Little Burstead has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings. If you look after a building like South Green Junior School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof. Take an older house close to Church of St Mary: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help.

FAQs for Little Burstead

Do you cover smaller places like Little Burstead?

We do. A small place gets exactly the same survey as a big one.

Do you carry out roof surveys in Little Burstead?

Yes, Little Burstead is within the area we cover. Our area covers London and South East England. Just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form and let us know about the property.

What do I do with the report?

The report comes by email, and what you do next is up to you: raise it with a seller, send it to an insurer, brief a roofer or share it with a managing agent.

Will you go up on the roof?

Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. We use safe viewpoints, the roof space and a drone where applicable.

What does the report include?

It sets out what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, backed by photographs. Anything we couldn’t see safely is noted too.

Is it a structural engineer’s report?

No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs such as sagging are noted, but calculations and an engineer’s opinion are outside what we do. If one is needed, the report says so.

How fast do I get the report?

It depends on the package: the Basic Survey report arrives within 48 hours, the Standard Survey in 24 to 48 hours and the Premium Survey the same day. The report is emailed to you.

What we cannot see

Our survey isn’t a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. It also has these limits:

  • Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
  • An energy rating for the building
  • The condition of timbers we can’t see

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will tell you. The full list of what we check.

Roof types and parts we check

  • Pitched roof slopes
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Flat roofs
  • Loft conversions
  • Commercial roofs

What affects the price in Little Burstead

When we price a survey, we consider:

  • The shape of the roof and its details
  • Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
  • How big the roof is
  • The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

What we need to know

What helps most when you contact us:

  • Photos of the roof, taken safely from the ground or a window
  • The style of property, from a terrace to a block
  • What’s prompted the survey
  • Your timetable, like an exchange date

Our phone lines are open seven days a week. For a price or to book, phone 07833 053749 or drop us an email.

The survey, step by step

The visit normally starts outside and finishes in the loft: outside views come first, then the roof space if there’s safe access. In total, it takes an hour or two on an ordinary house, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Around Little Burstead, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe viewpoints.
  3. A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
  4. Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
  5. The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.

Before we arrive

  • Unlock side gates and any roof access doors
  • Make sure the loft hatch can be reached
  • Dig out any old roof reports or invoices

How to book

If you have photos of the roof, send them over. Take them safely from ground level or a window, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
