Roof survey in Little Burstead
There are three levels of survey: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, with VAT included. The Basic Survey gives a visual inspection, photos and written recommendations. Standard and Premium go further, such as moisture detection, a structural check, thermal imaging and a drone where it applies. Each one comes with a written report. We are often asked to look into gaps in the roof where coverings have gone and condensation or damp timbers in the loft, across flat roofs, natural slate and clay and concrete tiles.
In a small place like Little Burstead, many roofs stand in the open, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Damp in old walls is slow to dry, so a small leak can do a lot of harm. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are frequently where weather gets in first.
After the visit, you get a written report with photos, sent by email. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

Roof surveys in Little Burstead: local notes
If the drone is used for your survey, the flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first. With Ingatestone Hall about 4 miles north, Little Burstead sits in an area with a long building history. On older houses around here, roofs often carry the marks of earlier repairs, from replaced slates to new lead, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.
Shop and office owners around Eastgate Shopping Centre may find that a written record of the roof’s condition helps you plan maintenance rather than react to leaks. For landlords with property near Billericay station, a roof report between tenancies helps plan work before a small defect becomes a tenant’s leak. If you look after a building like South Green Junior School, its roofs, gutters and any chimneys need the same checks as a house’s, just on a bigger scale.
Little Burstead is about 2 miles south of Billericay, in Essex. We carry out roof surveys for homes and businesses in Little Burstead and nearby. Our area takes in places right across Essex. We also survey roofs in Chelmsford.

That includes homes and businesses on Broomhills Chase, Laindon Common Road and Clock House Road and the roads around them. Neighbouring places we cover for roof surveys include Great Burstead (1 mile east), Billericay (2 miles north), Crays Hill (3 miles east), Ramsden Bellhouse (3 miles east) and Ramsden Heath (3 miles north-east). Within a short drive, we also cover Chelmsford (10 miles north), Basildon (3 miles south-east), Brentwood (5 miles west), Maldon (14 miles north-east), Canvey Island (9 miles south-east) and Rayleigh (8 miles east).

Questions from Little Burstead
Is Little Burstead within the area you cover?
Yes. Little Burstead is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Just mention lanes, gates or anything else about the route when booking.
Is my home in Little Burstead listed or in a conservation area?
The council and Historic England’s list are the places to check. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it’s worth checking before planning any.
Can you survey in bad weather?
A survey can typically go ahead in light rain. Strong wind or a downpour can stop drone flights and make roof access unsafe, so we will agree a new date if the weather is not suitable.
Will you check the loft?
If there is a loft and safe access to it, yes. From inside, the underside of the roof often shows damp, staining or daylight that can’t be seen from outside.
How long will you be at the property?
On site, it typically takes roughly 1–2 hours for a house, rising to roughly 3–4 hours on a commercial building. Report times depend on the package.
Will you climb onto the roof?
Only when it’s safe. We also use views from the ground, windows and the roof space.
What’s the best way to book?
To book, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address, the type of property and what’s prompted the survey. We will confirm the price and agree a day with you.
What affects the cost of roof surveys
Every roof is different, so prices are confirmed before booking. These are the things that affect it:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- Basic, Standard or Premium
- Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how safely it can be seen. Our price is from £150, including VAT.
Getting in touch
If you can, have these to hand when you contact us:
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- What’s prompted the survey
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
Photos help, if you have them. Take them safely from the ground or a window, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or email us.
The survey, step by step
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. In total, it takes about one to two hours at most homes, and longer for a large or complex roof. Around Little Burstead, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it’s useful to know whether there’s a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by hearing what you’d like checked and why.
- We agree a date, on a weekday, Saturday or Sunday.
- The roof is inspected from ground level, windows, the loft and the roof itself where it is safe.
- We check the coverings, ridges, hips, valleys, flashings, chimneys and gutters, and photograph what we find.
- You receive a written report with photos and recommendations.
Before the survey
- If you’re buying, check with the agent that we can get in
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
- Clear the way to the loft hatch

Practical tips
A survey works best with a little help from you, before and after. Some tips:
- Look for debris in the garden after high winds
- Make sure we can open the loft hatch
- Include dormers, porches and garages when you book
- Mention any damp patches as you book
We email the report to you, with photos of what we found. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24 to 48 hours for Standard and the same day for Premium. Each finding is set out in plain English.
Look at your roof from ground level after strong winds. Slipped slates, lifted ridge tiles or pieces in the garden are signs something has moved. Prompt repairs stop small problems growing.
Why act early in Little Burstead
Leaving it means relying on what you can see from the ground. That can lead to the wrong work being done, or to a real problem being missed. We tell you what’s really needed. Matching old materials, such as handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Price depends partly on the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all with VAT included. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.

Should I look at the roof myself first?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, which helps when we check the roof.
