Little Chart Thermal Roof Survey
Find out what’s going on with the roof before you decide what to do next. Thermal roof surveys in Little Chart, with photographs and a clear written report.
- Water that travels before it shows
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover
Without opening up the roof, some things stay hidden, so a survey has limits:
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll recommend the right survey before booking. The full list of what we check.

About our thermal roof survey in Little Chart
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. We back up the images with moisture readings and a careful look at the roof. Our report says plainly what the camera picked up and how sure we can be. If a finding can’t be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. We survey flat roofs, commercial roofs and pitched roof slopes, and common reasons people get in touch are damp around roof outlets and upstands and water getting in at parapets and stacks.
Somewhere as small as Little Chart, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
Findings are set out part by part, from the main slopes down to the gutters and outlets. You’ll see the good as well as the bad.

Checking the roof from the ground
A lot can be seen from ground level. Binoculars help you spot slipped slates or tiles, gaps along the ridge and a leaning stack. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
The one thing to avoid is getting up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That’s where a survey comes in.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. For an older or listed building in a place like Little Chart, repairs may need matching materials and consent, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Your questions about thermal roof surveys in Little Chart
Is Little Chart in the area you cover?
We do. Every survey there gets the same written report with photographs, and visits run on weekdays and weekends.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Little Chart?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?
Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
Do I have to be there for the survey?
It depends on what we need to see. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed as you book.
Do you climb onto every roof?
Not always. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where applicable let us see the rest, and the report records anything we couldn’t see.
Can you give me structural calculations?
No. We note visible signs like sagging or deflection, but we’re not structural engineers and don’t carry out calculations. If we think you need an engineer, the report says so.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
The camera can point to heat loss and gaps in insulation. The survey is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the report shows where to look more closely.

Common roof problems in Little Chart
On big commercial and residential flat roofs, thermal imaging helps owners plan. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so moisture readings can be targeted.
A survey can pick up problems like:
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Heat escaping through the roof
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
- Leaks that are hard to trace
For an older house near a landmark like St Mary, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

How it works
On the day, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. Most surveys take an hour or two for most houses, with bigger or more complicated roofs taking longer. In a hamlet or village like Little Chart, a postcode does not always lead to the right gate, so a few directions are welcome. After that, the survey runs as it would anywhere.
- We start with the roof, its history and any signs of damp or heat loss.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- Moisture readings are used to check what the camera shows.
- The Premium report reaches you the same day, and we go through it with you in person.
Preparing for the visit
