Airspace, weather and Parslow's Hillock roofs

Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Thatch survives on some older buildings in Buckinghamshire’s villages. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Many roofs like these cannot be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place.

With Hughenden Manor about 4.6 miles south-east, the area around Parslow's Hillock has a long history. A drone or thermal survey does not involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.

Thermal roof survey in Parslow's Hillock

Wet insulation under a flat roof covering holds heat for longer than dry. That means a wet area can show up as a different temperature from the rest of the roof. It helps us see how far water may have spread under the covering, something you can’t usually tell from the surface. We then check those areas with moisture readings. If you are worried about leaks far from where the stain appears and missing or slipped insulation, a survey will tell you what’s going on.

Older buildings in small places like Parslow's Hillock may be listed or in a conservation area. A look from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Check with the council before planning any work on a listed building or one in a conservation area.

You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

What we do, step by step

On the day, we begin with a quick chat about the roof and anything that is worrying you. We then inspect everything that can be seen safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where applicable. The survey typically takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Cottages and farmhouses around Parslow's Hillock often have roofs at several levels, with lean-tos and outbuildings attached. Each part is looked at from wherever it can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted.

  1. First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
  2. The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Questions from Parslow's Hillock

How do I find out if my home in Parslow's Hillock is listed?

You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it is in a conservation area. Listed building consent is needed for changes that affect a listed building’s special interest, and conservation areas can limit changes of roofing material.

Will you come out to Parslow's Hillock?

Yes. Parslow's Hillock is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We cover the whole of London and South East England. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.

Is thermal imaging included in your surveys?

Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.

Will you fly a drone over my roof?

Yes, where applicable and safe. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator (Flyer ID and Operator ID), flying a sub-250g drone. Drone inspection is part of the Drone Roof Survey and the Premium Survey, where applicable.

Which days do you carry out surveys?

We survey seven days a week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tell us which days suit you when booking.

What does the report include?

You get our findings in writing, part by part, with photos, finishing with recommendations. The most urgent items are made clear.

Will thermal imaging find my leak?

Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. The results depend on conditions on the day. If the source cannot be confirmed, we’ll say what could help next, such as electronic leak detection.

When to book a survey in Parslow's Hillock

On big commercial and residential flat roofs, thermal imaging helps owners plan. Patterns can point to wet areas and show which parts look sound, so we know where to take moisture readings.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Water that travels before it shows
  • Cold spots on ceilings under the roof

Take a building like Princes Risborough School: big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.

What to check before booking

  • Whether the inside of the roof is included
  • How they’ll see the roof: from the ground, the loft, the roof or by drone
  • What exactly goes into their report
  • Whether the price includes VAT

What to expect from a roof survey

Tips that help

Over many surveys, some simple habits stand out:

  • Photograph damp patches with the date
  • Keep the heating on as usual before a heat loss survey
  • File the images with your roof records
  • Make sure the loft can be reached safely

If you are buying, the report gives you specific points to raise with the seller or agent. It is your decision how to use it, whether you ask for work before completion or discuss the price.

Deal with small splits and lifted seams promptly. Water that gets under a covering can spread a long way before it shows.

Can I check my roof myself?

What you cannot do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.

Keep a simple record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us when you book.

What affects the cost of thermal roof surveys

Prices vary from roof to roof, for these reasons:

  • House, block, shop or office
  • Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
  • Roof area
  • Building height and the viewpoints available

Thermal roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. Packages run from Basic at £150 through Standard at £250 to Premium at £400, inc. VAT, and we can help you choose.

Booking your survey

These details help when you contact us:

  • Any stains, drips or damp patches you’ve seen indoors
  • The type of building and roof, such as pitched or flat
  • Any photos you have, taken from ground level or a window
  • Any deadline, such as an exchange date

Buyers should book once an offer has been accepted, so there’s time to use the report before exchange. For any other survey, just phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form when you’re ready.

Why get it checked now?

The longer moisture sits in a roof, the more it can affect timbers and finishes below. Surveying sooner gives you more choice about what to do. Older and listed buildings around Parslow's Hillock may need consent and matching materials for repairs, so a defect found early gives time to plan the work properly.
