Thermal roof survey in Pegsdon: what you get
Thermal imaging works best in the right conditions. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We talk through the forecast when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. We survey flat roofs, pitched roof slopes and commercial roofs, and people most often book us about areas of a flat roof that may hold water and leaks that are hard to trace.
Older buildings in small places like Pegsdon may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, so it is a gentle way to see the condition of an old roof. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
Pictures do a lot of the work in our reports, because a photo of a cracked flashing says more than a paragraph. Anything out of sight on the day is listed as such.

How the survey changes by roof type
Loft insulation
The difference is clearest when the home is heated and it is cold out. Our report notes how the conditions affected the images.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Even on pitched roofs, the camera can point to heat loss and some damp. The report explains what the images can tell you and what they can’t.
Common roof problems in Pegsdon
After a repair, some owners want to know whether the roof has dried out. A thermal survey with moisture readings can show whether wet areas remain when the conditions on the day are suitable.
People usually book a survey after spotting something like this:
- Stains that keep coming back
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Moisture around outlets and upstands
If you look after a building like Hexton Junior Mixed and Infant School, thermal images can show where wet insulation sits under a big flat roof.
What to check before booking
- What insurance they carry
- Will they check the loft as well as the outside?
- Whether VAT is added on top
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
What affects the price in Pegsdon
Our packages start from £150, including VAT. The price for your roof depends on:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The type of building, from a house to a block or an office
- Extra roofs, like extensions, dormers or garages
- Roof area
The cost of a survey depends on the roof: its size, its height, how many sections it has and how it can be reached and seen safely. Prices start from £400, including VAT.
Booking your survey
To price your survey accurately, we’ll ask about:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- The address and postcode of the property
- What’s prompted the survey
Our phone lines are open seven days a week, including Saturdays and Sundays. To book or ask a question, call 07833 053749 or drop us an email.
What a thermal roof survey doesn’t cover
We only report whatever is safely visible on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:
- Confirming water without moisture readings
- The condition of timbers we can’t see
- An energy rating for the building
If you are not sure which survey you need, ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email and we will give you a straight answer. The full list of what we check.

Why act early in Pegsdon
Trapped water can harm decks, timbers and ceilings the longer it stays. Looking now, while the damage may still be limited, keeps more options open. Where a roof is exposed, as many are in small places like Pegsdon, driving rain gets into any weakness, and damp in older walls is slow to dry out.
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on how big and how high the roof is, how it can safely be seen and which survey you book.

Pegsdon: your questions answered
Do you carry out roof surveys in Pegsdon?
Yes. We survey roofs across London and South East England, and Pegsdon is part of that. Just ring 07833 053749 or send us an email and let us know about the property, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Is Pegsdon within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. We work right across London and South East England, and smaller places are part of that. Longer journeys are simply planned beforehand.
How long is the visit?
Expect it to take about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. You will then get the report by email.
Does the report include photos?
Yes. Photographs are part of every report.
Which survey includes thermal imaging?
It’s part of the Premium Survey, from £400. An in-person consultation and a follow-up 12 months later are included too. For bigger commercial roofs, we quote on size.
Do I need to be at home?
Someone needs to let us in if we’re looking inside or in the loft. We will talk about access as you book.
Do you use drones?
Where it helps and it’s safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
The survey, step by step
There isn’t much for you to do on the day. Show us any stains, drips or problem areas you know about, and we’ll get on with the inspection. A typical survey takes about one to two hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Somewhere as small as Pegsdon, access is frequently the only tricky part. Let us know about outbuildings, past repairs and any leaks you’ve noticed. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We talk through the roof, any damp or leaks, and the weather expected on the day.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can be seen safely.
- A thermal camera records how the surface temperature varies across the roof.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- The report sets out the images, what they suggest and what we recommend.
Preparing for the visit
- Keep pets in another room
- Agree roof access with the managing agent if it’s shared
- Jot down any questions you want answered

Advice
Thermal roof surveys around Pegsdon
Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates, and flat-roofed additions turn up almost everywhere. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where photos from the air and thermal images help. What can be done to an older roof may depend on listing or a conservation area. Your council and Historic England’s list will tell you where you stand.
If yours is one of the older homes in the streets near Church of St Faith (Church of England), steep roofs, tall chimneys and hidden valleys can be hard to see from the ground, and that is where a view from the air or with a thermal camera helps.
