Thermal imaging roof survey in Petersham, Greater London
A careful look at the roof at your property in Petersham, with photos and a written report.
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
How it works
The visit has one job: to look at the roof as closely as is safe and record what we find. Everything we note and photograph goes into the written report. The visit typically takes an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. From the street, a London terrace usually shows only its front slope or parapet, so in Petersham we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. Shared stairs or a basement flat? Tell us who holds the keys.
- First we go over the roof, the problem you’ve noticed and the conditions forecast for the visit.
- We look at the roof from the ground, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
Getting ready for the survey
- Dig out any old roof reports or invoices
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed

Advice
Thermal roof survey in Petersham: what you get
Your report sets out the thermal images alongside ordinary photographs, so it is easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There’s a 12-month follow-up as well. If you are worried about stains that keep coming back and cold spots on ceilings under the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on.
Many London roofs are hidden from the pavement: valley gutters behind parapets, dormers and flat-roofed rear additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. The weather decides the day: both drones and thermal cameras need the right conditions. Thermal images show surface temperature, not water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings.
We write the report in plain English, so you do not need to be a roofer to follow it. Each point is backed by a photo where possible, and recommendations are put with the most urgent first where relevant.

What this survey can’t tell you
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. Its limits include:
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Seeing water directly, as the camera shows temperature, not moisture
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
If in doubt, ring 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we will recommend the right survey before you book. What a survey covers and doesn’t.
What this survey covers
- Pitched roof slopes
- Ceilings below the roof
- Loft conversions
- Flat roofs
- Commercial roofs
- Insulated roof spaces
Flying and imaging in Petersham
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. There are several hotels within about a mile and a half of Petersham. For hotels and other commercial buildings, large roofs are where close-up aerial shots and thermal images show the most at once.
The streets around a church such as St Peter's Church are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if your house is among the older ones nearby, thin or patchy insulation under an old roof often shows up clearly on a thermal image. If you look after a building like The Russell Primary School, a drone or thermal camera can show a large roof in a single visit. If you run a hotel or guest house in or near Petersham, a roof problem can mean rooms out of use, so it pays to find faults before guests do.

Prices for thermal roof surveys in Petersham
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The size of the roof
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
One thing that affects the price is the package: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 or Premium from £400, all including VAT. The roof’s size, height and access matter as well.
Booking your survey
The more you tell us, the easier it is to price the survey. When you contact us, it’s useful to mention:
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
- Any deadline, like an exchange date
- The kind of building and roof involved
- What made you get in touch
Getting a price is simple: just call 07833 053749 or drop us an email, let us know about the property and we’ll explain which survey suits. We confirm the price before anything is booked.
What happens if roof problems are left?
Wet insulation under a flat roof doesn’t dry out on its own while the covering stays on. In time, it stops insulating properly and can damage the deck. Finding the wet areas sooner keeps the work smaller. In Petersham, as across London, an overflowing gutter soaks the wall below. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
A small, low roof with good viewpoints takes less time than a tall, complicated one, and the package matters as well. We will give you the figure before anything is booked.

Can I check my roof myself?
Look up at the roof after a storm, from ground level: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Don’t go up yourself.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Use a torch and stay on the joists or boards, and look for staining, damp timber or daylight coming through.
FAQs for Petersham
Is my home in Petersham listed or in a conservation area?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Petersham?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Every London address is checked against them before a flight. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions. A small drone can’t fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
When does the report arrive?
Basic reports arrive within 48 hours, Standard reports in 24–48 hours and Premium reports on the same day. Each one is emailed.
How long will you be at the property?
It normally takes about 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. The report follows by email.
What will the report tell me?
Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.
Do you test for asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. Buildings built or refurbished before 2000 may contain it.
Is it the same as a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, and it is not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. Many buyers have both.
