Thermal imaging roof survey in St Margarets, Greater London
We take a careful look at the roof at your property in St Margarets, with photographs and a written report.
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Areas of a flat roof that may hold water
Thermal roof survey in St Margarets
Thermal imaging can also show where a roof is losing heat. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves often show up as temperature differences. The difference shows most clearly when it’s warm inside and cold outside. The report shows the images and explains what they may mean. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations. If you’ve noticed stains that keep coming back and cold areas below the roof, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on flat roofs, insulated roof spaces and loft conversions alike.
London airspace is busy and tightly controlled: restriction zones surround Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs have restricted areas of their own. Every address in St Margarets is checked before any drone flight, and where permission is needed, the flight waits for it.
Every survey ends with a written report, with photographs, emailed to you. It explains the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend.

FAQs for St Margarets
How do I find out if my home in St Margarets is listed?
Start with Historic England’s list for listing and your council for conservation areas. Either can affect what roof work is allowed, so it is worth checking before planning any.
Is drone flying allowed in St Margarets?
That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. The flight restriction zone around Heathrow Airport comes within about 2 miles of St Margarets. We check the exact boundary for the address before flying, and if the roof falls inside it, we ask for permission first. Across London there are restriction zones around Heathrow, London City and London Heliport, plus restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or heavy rain, and the rest of the survey doesn’t depend on the drone.
Is this an asbestos survey?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but only a specialist asbestos surveyor can confirm it. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
The images show how warm or cool each part of the surface is. Differences can suggest wet areas, missing insulation or heat loss, and we check them with moisture readings.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. Ask if you need details for a managing agent or building owner.
Can a thermal survey trace a roof leak?
Thermal imaging can help, alongside other checks. The results depend on conditions on the day. Where it cannot be pinned down, the report suggests a next step, such as electronic leak detection.
How many surveys have you done?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Thermal roof surveys in St Margarets: local notes
Richmond House, about 1 mile south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around St Margarets. If you own one of the older houses, expect a mix of original materials and later repairs on the roof, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first. Further from the centre, London’s housing takes in interwar semis with hipped roofs in clay or concrete tiles as well as slate-roofed terraces. Hips, bay roofs and later loft conversions are typical of those semis, if your home is one of them. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
For a London address like St Margarets, it helps to know about controlled parking before the day. For hotels and guest houses around St Margarets, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest. For businesses in and around places such as Treaty Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see from above or with a thermal imager.

Landlord and commercial surveys in St Margarets
We survey roofs for letting agents and landlords as well as householders. The report gives you a dated record of the roof, with photos.
For a freeholder or residents’ company, a roof report is a sound basis for a maintenance plan, putting the urgent items at the top.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
After strong wind, take a look from the pavement or garden: broken slates or tiles in the garden, gaps along the ridge or loose lead are signs to note. Do not go up yourself.
What you cannot do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That is where a survey comes in.
How we price thermal roof surveys
Not every roof costs the same to survey, for these reasons:
- How complicated the roof is, with its valleys, chimneys and parapets
- The height of the building and how the roof can be seen safely
- Whether it is a home or a commercial building
- How big the roof is
Our price is from £400, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.
What we need to know
These details help when you contact us:
- Where water is showing inside, if it is
- Dates you’re working to, such as exchange
- Photos of the roof, taken safely from ground level or a window
- What made you get in touch
When you’re ready to go ahead, call 07833 053749 or email us. We’ll suggest a package, agree the price and find a date.

What this survey can’t tell you
No survey can tell you everything, and we’d rather be clear about that before you book. Keep these in mind:
- What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up
- Proving moisture from the images alone
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
If you’re not sure which survey you need, call 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. The full list of what we check.
What we check
- Pitched roof slopes
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
- Flat roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
Why get it checked now?
If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Thermal imaging, checked with moisture readings, gives a clearer picture before you commit. Blocked gutters and hoppers on London houses overflow and soak brickwork. A blocked outlet ignored for a winter or two can mean damp walls inside.
We offer three survey packages: Basic from £150, Standard from £250 and Premium from £400, all inc. VAT. The price for your roof depends on its size, access and what you’d like to know.
Why book with us
- Packages from £150, with VAT included
- Over 20 years’ experience
- A sub-250g drone, flown with a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- Insured for professional indemnity and public liability

How it works
Safety comes first on every visit. We inspect what can be seen safely, and anything we can’t see is noted in the report. Most visits take an hour or two at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. From the street, a London terrace usually shows only its front slope or parapet, so in St Margarets we work round the house, using the street, the windows, the loft and any safe vantage point behind it. If other people live in the building, let us know who can let us into the shared parts.
- We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- The report pairs each thermal image with a photo and explains what it suggests.
Before the survey
- Leave side gates unlocked
- For flats, make sure roof access has been agreed
- Show us where any leaks or stains appear
