Thermal imaging roof survey in Ham, Greater London
Know where you stand with the roof before you decide what to do next. We carry out thermal roof surveys in Ham.
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Cold areas below the roof
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Ham?
People often book a thermal survey when a damp patch has no obvious cause. Water can travel under a roof covering or along timbers before it shows inside. The camera helps narrow the search.
Typical things we are asked to look at include:
- Areas losing heat at the eaves and junctions
- Water that travels before it shows
- Water getting in at parapets and stacks
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
Controlled parking zones are common in London, so mention any permit rules for Ham.

- Are they insured for the work?
- Their drone registration, if they fly one
About our thermal roof survey in Ham
A thermal imaging roof survey uses a thermal camera to show differences in surface temperature across a roof. The patterns can suggest wet insulation, gaps in insulation or places where heat is getting out. The camera does not see water itself, so findings are checked with moisture readings. Thermal imaging is included in our Premium Survey, from £400. The report also notes the conditions on the day, since they affect what the camera can show. We survey pitched roof slopes, loft conversions and ceilings below the roof, and the problems we are asked to look at most are water that travels before it shows and cold spots on ceilings under the roof.
London’s roofs are often hard to see from the street: butterfly roofs behind parapets, dormer tops and flat roofs over back additions. That is where a view from the air or a thermal camera helps, by showing what cannot be reached safely. Weather on the day decides whether it goes ahead, in Ham as anywhere. What a thermal image shows is temperature, so anything that looks like moisture is checked with a meter.
The Standard Survey adds moisture detection, a structural check and a follow-up consultation. The Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where it applies, structural analysis and an in-person consultation.

Rented homes, blocks and businesses
With a portfolio of properties, surveys can be booked for more than one address. To arrange surveys for several addresses, phone 07833 053749 or email us.
Letting agents and landlords in Ham book surveys as well as householders. A written report with photos gives you a clear record of the roof, which helps you plan work between tenancies.
Prices for thermal roof surveys in Ham
When we price a survey, we consider:
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Features like valleys, chimneys, dormers and parapets
- The height of the building and how the roof can safely be seen
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
Simple, low roofs take less time to survey than tall or complicated ones, and the package matters as well. We’ll give you the figure before anything is booked.
Getting in touch
Here’s what helps us most when you get in touch:
- Access details, like a loft hatch or a shared roof
- Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work
- The kind of building and roof involved
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
To book a survey, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form with the address and what you’d like to know about the roof. You’ll know the price before anything is booked.
Should I look at the roof myself first?
Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Water spilling over the edge can point to a blockage or a sagging run.
A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please do not climb up for a closer look.
How it works
We work from the outside in: outside views come first, then the roof space if there is safe access. All told, expect roughly 1–2 hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Surveys in Ham can be booked for any day of the week. It helps if you can point us to a visitor permit or a nearby bay. Upstairs rooms at the back are useful too, as they frequently give the best view of a rear addition.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- The roof is inspected visually from safe positions.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.
Before the survey
- For a flat or shared roof, check access with the building owner or managing agent
- Check the loft hatch can be reached
- Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
How to book
Once you know what you need, ring 07833 053749 or email us. From there it’s a case of choosing a package, agreeing the price and fixing a day.
Advice
Why act early in Ham
Repeated repairs that don’t stop a leak are a sign the source hasn’t been traced. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, rather than more guesswork. Behind a London parapet, a blocked gutter can sit full of water without anyone seeing it. By the time a ceiling stains, the timbers underneath may have been wet for a while.
There are three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.

Airspace, weather and Ham roofs
Alongside Victorian and Edwardian terraces, outer London has a great many interwar semis, often with hipped roofs of clay or concrete tiles. Bay roofs, hip ridges and dormers from later loft conversions are the details that set these houses apart. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. About 0.6 miles north lies Ham House, a reminder of how long the area around Ham has been built on. Older homes in the wider area often have features worth a closer look, such as lead valleys, tall stacks and roofs that have been patched over the years, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
For hotels and guest houses around Ham, a roof problem found early is far less disruptive than one found by a guest. For businesses in and around places such as Bentall Centre, large commercial roofs are often easiest to see by drone or thermal camera.

What else we do in Ham
Ham: your questions answered
Can you fly a drone over a roof in Ham?
It depends on the exact address and the weather on the day. London’s airspace includes flight restriction zones around Heathrow, London City Airport and London Heliport, and restricted areas over Hyde Park, the City of London and the Isle of Dogs. Each address is checked against all of them before the drone goes up. Every flight is checked against the Drone Safety Map first, including zones around airports and prisons. Strong wind or a downpour also stops a small drone flying, though the rest of the survey goes ahead either way.
Is my home in Ham listed or in a conservation area?
We cannot confirm that for you, but Historic England’s list and your council can. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case, and councils can also use Article 4 directions.
Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?
It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and back them up with a visual inspection and moisture readings.
What can thermal imaging tell me about my roof?
It records surface temperature across the roof. Unusual patterns can point to trapped water, gaps in insulation or heat escaping, which we then check with moisture readings.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys can be booked for any day of the week: weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Let us know which days suit you when booking.
How soon will I get the report?
The Premium Survey report comes the same day, the Standard within 24–48 hours and the Basic within 48 hours. All of them come by email, ready to forward.
Do I need to be at home?
That depends on the survey. Inside the building and in the loft, we need someone to let us in, while outside access can be discussed when booking.
