Thermal Roof Survey in Singleton
Not sure what state the roof is in? We carry out thermal roof surveys in Singleton and across West Sussex.

- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
About our thermal roof survey in Singleton
Thermal imaging is a useful tool, but it has limits. It shows surface temperature, and things like sun, shade, reflections and wind all affect the readings. That’s why we check findings with moisture readings and a close visual inspection. The report is clear about what the images show and what they do not. If a finding cannot be confirmed, the report suggests a next step. Common reasons to book are damp patches with no obvious cause and water getting in at parapets and stacks, on insulated roof spaces, pitched roof slopes and flat roofs.
Older buildings in small places like Singleton may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care, before anyone decides what work it needs. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
The written findings come by email, easy to pass on to a roofer, an agent or an insurer. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Landlords, agents and block managers in Singleton
A roof problem in a let property affects your tenants as well as the building. A survey shows what needs attention, so you can plan the work.
Surveys can also be booked by buyers’ agents acting for a client. The report is emailed, so it can go straight to your client, photos included.
Leave it or get it looked at?
A damp patch that keeps coming back normally has a cause that hasn’t been found. Thermal imaging with moisture readings can help narrow it down, instead of trying repair after repair. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. That’s one more reason to find defects before they become urgent.
What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how it can be reached and seen safely. Our price is from £400, including VAT.

Airspace, weather and Singleton roofs
If the drone is used for your survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Older houses across Sussex frequently have handmade clay tiles, and many have tile-hanging on their upper walls. Some old buildings in Sussex have Horsham stone slab roofs. A drone or thermal camera adds most on the steep, tall and hidden parts of roofs like these.
If you look after a building such as Singleton CofE Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once. Take an older house close to The Parish Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.

Questions from Singleton
Is Singleton within the area you cover?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Does a conservation area affect roof work in Singleton?
Your council is the best source, with Historic England’s list for listed buildings. A change of roofing material may need consent in either case.
What happens after the survey?
We email you the written report with photographs and recommendations. It’s yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safe viewpoints, the loft space and a drone where it applies cover most of what’s needed, and anything out of sight is recorded in the report.
Can thermal imaging show missing insulation?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We don’t give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the report shows where to look more closely.
Is it a structural engineer’s report?
No. We are experienced roof surveyors, and visible signs like sagging are noted, but we don’t provide calculations or an engineer’s opinion. The report will say if you need an engineer.
I live in a flat. Can you survey the roof?
Yes, if the building owner or managing agent agrees access. We check the parts we are given access to, and the report makes that clear.
What we’re asked to look at in Singleton
Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.
Common reasons to book include:
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Thin or uneven insulation in the roof
- Damp that repairs haven’t cured
West Dean House lies about 1.2 miles west, so building around Singleton goes back a long way. A drone or thermal survey doesn’t involve any work on the roof, which suits older buildings.
Questions to ask before you book
- What the survey will not cover
- Their report turnaround times
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- Do they have a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID for drone work?
What affects the price in Singleton
All our prices include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- Commercial roofs and larger buildings
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
To find out what your survey will cost, call 07833 053749 or email us and let us know about the roof. We’ll confirm the figure before booking.
Helping us price your survey
A little information up front helps. It is useful to include:
- Where the property is, with the postcode
- How the loft is reached, if there is one
- Where any leaks, stains or damp patches show inside
- The reason for the survey, like buying, a leak or storm damage
We survey roofs on weekdays and at weekends. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or use the contact form.
Honest limits
A survey is a proper look at the roof, but it can’t do everything. Its limits include:
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- Whether the deck or roof structure is strong enough
- Confirming water without moisture readings
If you are not sure which survey you need, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we’ll give you a straight answer before booking. What our survey covers.
What we look at
- Ceilings below the roof
- Insulated roof spaces
- Flat roofs
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
- Pitched roof slopes
What we do, step by step
Every visit follows the same pattern: we hear what you’ve seen, look at the roof from every safe viewpoint, photograph what we find and record our findings for the written report. It normally takes roughly 1–2 hours at a house, including the thermal images, and around 3–4 hours for a commercial roof. Rural addresses near Singleton can be hard to find from a postcode alone, so a few directions are welcome. The visit itself is the same as anywhere else.
- You let us know about the roof and any damp, leaks or cold rooms.
- We check the conditions and note how they may affect the images.
- A full inspection and thermal imaging are carried out together.
- We back up the thermal patterns with moisture readings.
- You get the report the same day, with an in-person consultation to follow.
Before the survey
- Keep pets inside or away from the areas we’re looking at
- Move anything stored under the loft hatch
- Make a note of anything you’d like us to look at
