Tewin Thermal Roof Survey
Thermal roof surveys in Tewin from an independent, experienced roof surveyor. More than 20 years and over 5,000 surveys.
- Damp where roofs meet walls and chimneys
- Gaps in loft insulation
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
Thermal roof survey in Tewin: what you get
A thermal survey can point to places where heat is escaping through the roof. Missing or slipped insulation and gaps at the eaves frequently show up as temperature differences. It works best when the building is heated and it’s colder outside. Our report points out what the images suggest and where to look more closely. It is not an energy rating or a heat loss calculation. If you’re worried about possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering and wet areas near outlets and upstands, we can find out what’s behind it, on commercial roofs, loft conversions and insulated roof spaces alike.
In a small place like Tewin, open ground can mean strong wind. A small drone cannot fly safely in strong wind or a downpour, and thermal imaging works best with little wind. We plan the journey, access and timing around the weather. A change in the forecast can mean moving the visit to another day.
It isn’t only a list of defects. It explains what we found, why it matters and what we recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

How the survey works
Safety comes first on every visit. Everything that can safely be seen is inspected, and anything we cannot see is noted in the report. Most visits take roughly 1–2 hours on an ordinary house, while a commercial roof takes nearer three to four hours. Older roofs in small places like Tewin can have low, tight loft spaces, so tell us about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- First we discuss the roof, any damp and the forecast for the visit.
- We look over the roof from wherever it is safe.
- We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
- Patterns that stand out are checked with moisture readings.
- Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Thermal roof surveys in Tewin: local notes
Where the drone is part of the survey, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Across the South East, older homes tend to have slate or clay tiles, and many later ones concrete tiles. Steep or complicated roofs are frequently hard to see from the ground, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.
If you look after a shop, office or commercial unit, for example near Howard Centre, thermal images can show trapped moisture across a wide commercial roof. If you live in an older home near Church of St Peter, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.

How the survey changes by roof type
Loft insulation
In the roof space, the camera can pick up gaps and thin areas of insulation. We inspect the loft where it can be reached safely.
Pitched slate and tile roofs
Slate and tile roofs are often harder to read with a thermal camera, because of the air space beneath. We combine the images with an inspection from the loft where there’s safe access.
Tewin questions
Is Tewin in the area you cover?
We do. The survey and report are the same in Tewin as anywhere else.
Is Tewin within the area you cover?
Yes, smaller places are covered as well as towns. We work right across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when booking.
Does thermal imaging detect leaks directly?
No, not on its own. It shows temperature, and wet materials frequently behave differently from dry ones. That’s why we check any patterns with moisture readings.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. Our report may flag materials that could contain asbestos, but confirming it is a job for a specialist asbestos surveyor. It may be present in buildings built or refurbished before 2000.
How experienced are you?
More than 5,000 surveys over 20+ years.
Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?
Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. We do not give energy ratings or heat loss calculations, but the images show where improvements may help.
What insurance do you have?
We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance, for every survey we carry out.

DIY checks: what’s safe
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Share it with us as you book, as it helps us focus the survey.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Take a photo and write down when you saw it, as it helps a surveyor trace the cause.
What a survey costs
Our packages start from £150, inc. VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on:
- The roof’s overall size
- How tall the building is and how easy the roof is to see
- If the survey needs thermal imaging or a drone
- House, block, shop or office
Prices start from £400, including VAT. The final price depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can be seen safely and the package you choose.
Getting in touch
A little information up front helps. It’s useful to include:
- Dates you’re working to, like exchange
- Your postcode, so we can check access and travel
- Anything about access we should know
- Pictures of the roof from a safe spot, if you have them
We survey roofs seven days a week. To find a date that works for you, phone 07833 053749 or send us an email.
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Tewin?
Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. Patterns can point to wet areas and show which parts look sound, so moisture readings can be targeted.
Problems we come across frequently include:
- Leaks that are hard to trace
- Damp around roof outlets and upstands
- Cold spots on ceilings under the roof
- Stains that keep coming back
Digswell House lies about 2.1 miles west, so building around Tewin goes back a long way. Older roofs nearby can be steep and hard to see from the ground, and a survey from above or with a thermal imager doesn’t touch the roof itself.
Questions to ask before booking
- What the report includes, and whether it has photographs
- What’s outside the scope of the survey
- Whether the price includes VAT
- Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
