Thermal roof survey in Westbourne: what you get
Thermal imaging is part of our Premium Survey, which starts from £400. It also includes a drone inspection where it applies, a structural analysis and a same-day report. There is an in-person consultation as well, plus a follow-up 12 months later. To book, just call 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and what you’ve noticed. For big commercial roofs, we quote on size and access. We survey commercial roofs, flat roofs and ceilings below the roof, and common reasons people get in touch are stains that keep coming back and gaps in loft insulation.
Older buildings in small places like Westbourne may be listed or in a conservation area. Neither a drone survey nor a thermal survey involves any work on the roof, which suits a building where any change needs care. Changes that affect a listed building’s special interest need listed building consent, so check with the council first.
You can share the report with anyone who needs it: a seller or estate agent, an insurer, a roofer, a builder or a managing agent, whichever applies.

Common questions in Westbourne
Is Westbourne in the area you cover?
Yes, Westbourne is one of the places we work. The survey and report are the same in Westbourne as anywhere else.
Is my home in Westbourne listed or in a conservation area?
You can check whether a building is listed on Historic England’s list, and your council can tell you if it’s in a conservation area. If a home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission.
Will you walk on the roof?
Only when it is safe. Safety comes first, and fragile or steep roofs can’t always be walked on. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.
Are you insured?
Professional indemnity and public liability insurance cover our surveys. If you need details for a managing agent or a building owner, just ask.
Which days do you carry out surveys?
Surveys run on weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays. To arrange a date, ring 07833 053749 or email us.
Is thermal imaging useful on pitched roofs?
It can be useful, though pitched roofs are normally harder to read. Slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s below, so we also look from the loft where it’s safe.
How quickly is the report sent?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline when you book.
Signs you need a thermal roof survey in Westbourne
Cold rooms under a roof, or high heating bills, lead some people to ask about heat loss. Missing or slipped insulation can stand out as temperature differences, especially when it is warm inside and cold outside.
Problems we come across frequently include:
- Ceilings that feel colder in places
- Damp around chimneys and parapets
- Patches of heat loss across the roof
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
If you look after a building such as Westbourne Primary School, big roofs are where aerial photos and thermal images show the most at once.
What to check before booking
- If they fly a drone, whether they hold a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
- How much experience they have with roofs like yours
- How they’ll see the roof: from ground level, the loft, the roof or by drone
- Which limits apply to the survey
What a thermal roof survey looks like in Westbourne
Westbourne lies within about 2 miles of the sea, and wind off the sea can be strong. Clear thermal results need a dry roof and little wind after a sunny day, so the date depends on the forecast. About 2.2 miles south-west lies Warblington Castle, a reminder of how long the area around Westbourne has been built on. Period homes nearby can have lead valleys, tall chimneys and a patchwork of past repairs, and a listed home or one in a conservation area may need consent for changes of material.
If you own one of the older houses in the streets near St John the Baptist's Church, tall stacks and steep slopes are easier to judge with close-up aerial photos than from the pavement.
Westbourne is about 3 miles east of Havant, in West Sussex. Surveys in Westbourne work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful look at what can safely be seen, photos and a clear written report. Westbourne is one of the places in West Sussex we cover. There’s also a page for Portsmouth.
We cover every part of PO10 for thermal roof surveys and the streets around it. Whether your property is on The Square, Church Road and Crockford Road or a nearby road, we can help. If you are just outside Westbourne, we cover Lumley (1 mile south), Woodmancote (1 mile east), Emsworth (1 mile south-west), Southbourne (1 mile south-east) and Denvilles (2 miles west). Within a short drive, we also cover Bognor Regis (12 miles south-east), Chichester (7 miles east), Selsey (11 miles south-east), Portfield (7 miles east), Yapton (14 miles east) and East Wittering (7 miles south).

Around Westbourne, our work takes us to homes and buildings near Stansted Park, The Good Intent Public House and Bourne Community College, among other places. Westbourne’s nearest station is Emsworth station, about 1 mile south-west of the centre. Nearby you will also find Warblington Castle (2.2 miles south-west) and Havant War Memorial Hospital (2.8 miles west). Open spaces near Westbourne include Stoke Down and Brook Meadow (Emsworth).
Checking the roof from ground level
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Slates, tiles, flat roofs and rooflights can give way. That’s where a survey comes in, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
After heavy rain, check ceilings and the tops of walls for new stains. Photograph them and note the date, which helps when we check the roof.
Different roofs, different checks
Pitched slate and tile roofs
On pitched roofs, slates and tiles over a ventilated space can mask what’s happening underneath. We back up what the camera shows with a look in the loft where we can.
Loft insulation
Insulation frequently gets moved during work in the loft. Thermal images can show where it has been pushed aside.

What happens if roof problems are left?
If a big flat roof may need replacing, knowing the wet areas first is useful. Images backed by moisture readings show where problems seem to be before you commit. For older village homes like those around Westbourne, the right replacement materials are not always easy to find quickly. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.
Prices start from £150, including VAT, for a Basic Survey. Standard is from £250 and Premium from £400, both with VAT included. We confirm the price for your roof before you book.

When you need someone else
It’s a careful look at the roof, not the whole story. The main limits are:
- Insulation values or heat loss calculations
- A structural engineer’s assessment
- Proving moisture from the images alone

What we check
- Pitched roof slopes
- Flat roofs
- Ceilings below the roof
- Insulated roof spaces
- Loft conversions
- Commercial roofs
The survey, step by step
When we arrive, we start by asking what you’ve noticed and what you need to know. After that, we check everything we can see safely, using the ground, windows, the loft and a drone where it applies. Most surveys take roughly 1–2 hours for most houses, though large, tall or awkward roofs take more time. Older roofs in small places like Westbourne can have low, tight loft spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We carry out a visual inspection of the roof from wherever it can safely be seen.
- We take thermal images of the roof to pick up temperature patterns.
- We check the patterns that stand out with moisture readings where there is safe access.
- We write up the thermal images alongside ordinary photos and recommendations.
How to prepare
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Jot down any questions you want answered
- Check the loft hatch can be reached

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from ground level or a window are fine, and please do not climb up for a closer look. To send them or to book, call 07833 053749 or send us an email.
