Thermal roof survey in Willingale
What a thermal camera can show depends a lot on the weather. A sunny day before the survey, a dry roof surface and little wind all help. Rain, wind and cloud can all make the patterns weaker. We’ll discuss the weather with you when booking, and the report explains how the conditions on the day affected the results. We survey loft conversions, flat roofs and commercial roofs, and people most often book us about stains that keep coming back and leaks that are hard to trace.
Somewhere as small as Willingale, older roofs are frequently steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what cannot be reached safely. Weather and airspace are looked at ahead of the visit. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.
The report does not just list problems. For each finding, it explains what it is, why it matters and what we’d recommend, so you can plan your next steps.

What this survey cannot tell you
We only report what can be seen safely on the day, so there are some things a survey cannot cover:
- Hidden layers that need to be opened up to check
- Clear results when the conditions on the day are poor
- Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer

What else we do in Willingale
Willingale: your questions answered
Do you cover Willingale?
Yes, Willingale is within the area we cover. We survey roofs across London and South East England. You can ring 07833 053749 or send us an email with the address and a few details, and we will talk through which survey suits.
Do you cover smaller places like Willingale?
Yes, we do. Our area covers London and the South East, from towns to the smallest villages. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
When does the report arrive?
Report times are set by the package. Basic: within 48 hours. Standard: 24 to 48 hours. Premium: the same day. Mention any deadline as you book.
Can you inspect my roof with a drone?
Where it helps and it is safe, yes. Flights depend on the weather on the day and airspace rules, including flight restriction zones near airports. We’re a CAA-registered drone operator.
Do you take photos of the roof?
Yes. Photographs are taken throughout the survey, and the report uses them to show each finding alongside our recommendations.
Will you go up on the roof?
Only where it’s safe to do so. We look at everything that can be seen safely: from the ground, from windows, from inside the loft space, from the roof where it is safe and by drone where it applies. The report says if anything couldn’t be seen.
Is this a RICS survey?
No. This is a survey of the roof only, so it’s not a RICS Level 2 or Level 3 survey. It can sit alongside a RICS survey if you want both.
Checking the roof from the ground
What you can’t do safely is get up close. Roofs are fragile and slippery, and a fall can be serious. That part is for a survey, using safe viewpoints and a drone where it applies.
Inside, the loft is a good place to look, with care. Take a torch and only step on boards or joists, checking for stains, damp wood or chinks of daylight.

Different roofs, different checks
Parapets, valleys and junctions
When valley or parapet gutters overflow, water can get into walls and ceilings. Thermal images, checked with moisture readings, can help trace it.
GRP fibreglass roofs
Water can get through cracked GRP into the deck. We check cracks by eye and use the images to see whether there’s a pattern around them.
Airspace, weather and Willingale roofs
If your survey includes the drone, we check the Drone Safety Map for restrictions before flying. Clay tiles and timber weatherboarding mark out many of the older buildings in Essex, and a good many post-war and modern estates besides. Where a roof is steep, tall or hard to see from ground level, drone photos and thermal images add detail.

How the survey works
Time on site depends on the size and shape of the roof, but as a rough guide the survey takes about 1–2 hours at most homes, or half a day or so for a commercial building. If you have questions on the day, just ask. Somewhere as small as Willingale, access is frequently the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.
- We start by discussing the roof, any signs of damp and how the weather may affect the images.
- We look at the roof from ground level, from windows and from the roof itself where it is safe.
- Thermal images are taken to show differences in surface temperature.
- Any patterns of interest are checked with moisture readings where we can reach them.
- You get a report with thermal images, photos and our recommendations.

Related advice
Do you need a thermal roof survey in Willingale?
Building owners and managing agents use thermal surveys to plan work on larger flat roofs. It can suggest which areas may be wet and which seem dry, so we know where to take moisture readings.
A survey makes sense if you’ve noticed:
- Wet areas near outlets and upstands
- Leaks far from where the stain appears
- Possible trapped moisture under a flat roof covering
- Cold areas below the roof
Take an older house close to Parish Church of St Christopher Willingale Doe: older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where aerial photos and thermal images help.
