Independent thermal roof surveys in Wissenden

Thermal roof surveys for homes and businesses in Wissenden

We present each thermal image next to a normal photo of the same area, so it’s easy to see which part of the roof each one shows. Each one comes with an explanation, the moisture readings and our recommendation. Premium reports are sent the same day. If you have questions, the in-person consultation gives you time to go through them. There is a 12-month follow-up as well. We survey ceilings below the roof, flat roofs and insulated roof spaces, and the problems we are asked to look at most are thin or uneven insulation in the roof and cold areas below the roof.

In a village or hamlet like Wissenden, roofs can be steep, old and hard to see from the lane. A drone and a thermal camera each give a view you cannot get from ground level. Both the forecast and the airspace are checked first, and the journey is planned in advance. Steep slopes and tall chimney stacks are where a close-up view adds the most.

The report records the roof as we found it on the day. It’s useful right away, and a good reference for later, like when you want to compare after future work.

Should I look at the roof myself first?

Watch the gutters in a downpour, from a window or the ground. Overflowing water can point to a blockage or a sagging run.

A lot can be seen from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Please don’t climb up for a closer look.

Questions from Wissenden

Do you cover smaller places like Wissenden?

Yes. Wissenden is within the area we cover, which takes in towns, villages and rural addresses. We survey roofs across London and the South East. Let us know about access, parking and anything unusual about getting there when you book.

Is Wissenden in the area you cover?

We do. The survey and report are the same in Wissenden as anywhere else.

How much does a thermal roof survey cost?

Our Premium Survey, from £400, includes thermal imaging. You also get an in-person consultation and a 12-month follow-up. Larger commercial roofs are quoted for their size.

How long is the visit?

Expect it to take an hour or two for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. You’ll then get the report by email.

Can you check my loft insulation with a thermal camera?

Thermal images can suggest where heat is escaping and where insulation may be missing. The survey isn’t an energy rating or a heat loss calculation, but the images show where improvements may help.

What’s in the report?

Written findings with photographs, covering the condition of the roof, the defects we found and what we recommend, by urgency where it matters. The Standard Survey adds moisture detection and a structural check, and the Premium Survey adds thermal imaging, drone inspection where applicable and structural analysis.

Does thermal imaging work on slate and tile roofs?

It can show heat loss and some damp, but it has more limits there. Our report is clear about what can be read from them, and we check them with a visual inspection and moisture readings.

Do you need a thermal roof survey in Wissenden?

Flat roofs that have leaked for a while can have wet insulation under the covering. Knowing how much of the roof is affected helps decide between a local repair and more. Thermal images and moisture readings together can show the likely extent.

Most people get in touch when they’ve noticed something like this:

  • Damp that repairs haven’t cured
  • Damp around chimneys and parapets
  • Moisture around outlets and upstands
  • Water that travels before it shows

Take a building like Bethersden Primary School: a view from above covers a wide roof far faster than walking it.

What to check before booking

  • Which viewpoints they use to see the roof
  • Whether they hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance
  • Whether the loft is part of the inspection
  • What’s outside the scope of the survey

What to expect from a roof survey

What we look for on each type of roof

GRP fibreglass roofs

GRP surfaces can be shiny, which affects thermal readings. We take that into account and check findings with moisture readings.

Felt and asphalt flat roofs

Felt and asphalt roofs often show wet areas as patches that differ from the rest. We check those patches with moisture readings.

Why get it checked now?

Heat lost through a roof costs money every winter. The camera can point to gaps and thin areas in the insulation, so improvements can go where they’re needed. Matching old materials, like handmade tiles or stone slates, can take time to source. Spotting a problem early leaves room to find them.

What a survey costs comes down to the roof itself: how big it is, how high it is, the number of separate roofs and how safely it can be seen. Prices start from £400, including VAT.

Why us?

  • Over 20 years’ experience
  • A sub-250g drone, flown with a CAA Flyer ID and Operator ID
  • Independent findings on the roof’s condition
  • Customer satisfaction of 98%

What this survey cannot tell you

We only report everything that’s safely in view on the day, so some things are outside what a survey can do:

  • Insulation values or heat loss calculations
  • Structural calculations, which need a structural engineer
  • What’s inside walls or under coverings, without opening up

Not sure which survey suits your roof? You can call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and we’ll tell you before you book. What our survey covers.

What we look at

  • Commercial roofs
  • Ceilings below the roof
  • Loft conversions
  • Insulated roof spaces
  • Flat roofs
  • Pitched roof slopes

What we do, step by step

After the inspection, everything we found is written up as a photo-illustrated written report, emailed to you. On timing, most surveys take about one to two hours for most homes, plus time to check any thermal findings with moisture readings. Somewhere as small as Wissenden, access is often the only tricky part. Mention any outbuildings, barns or garages you want included, and anything about the roof you already know. Visits can be on weekdays, Saturdays or Sundays.

  1. We go through the roof, the problem and the weather expected on the day.
  2. We look over the roof from wherever it’s safe.
  3. We take thermal images of the roof and of the loft where we can reach it.
  4. We take moisture readings where the images suggest a problem.
  5. Each image is set beside a normal photo and explained in the report.

Before we arrive

  • Keep pets out of the way during the survey
  • Jot down any questions you want answered
  • If you are buying, let the agent know when we’re coming

How to book

Thermal roof surveys around Wissenden

Older houses across Kent often have handmade clay or peg tiles, and many have tile-hung walls. Oast houses and timber-framed Wealden hall houses are part of the county’s older buildings too. Many roofs like these can’t be judged properly from the pavement, and that’s where a view from above or a thermal image earns its place. Godinton House, about 4.8 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area around Wissenden. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and the council can say whether a home is in a conservation area.
