Uplees Chimney Survey
A careful look at the chimney stack at your property in Uplees, and put it all in a written report with photos.
- Damaged chimney pots and cowls
- Gaps in the mortar around the pots
- Bricks with flaking faces
About our chimney survey in Uplees
Chimney stacks take more weather than almost any other part of a house. In time, flaunching cracks, mortar washes out and flashings come loose. Water then gets into the stack and can show as damp on a chimney breast or a stain in the loft. A survey finds these problems and records them with photos. If you’ve noticed eroded joints in the brickwork and damaged chimney pots and cowls, a survey will tell you what’s going on, on chimney breasts, chimney pots and cowls and shared and party-wall stacks alike.
Village roofs often face open fields and take the full force of wind and rain, so ridges, chimney stacks, flashings and gutters work hard. Older walls take a long time to dry once water gets in. A written report sets out what to deal with and in what order. Lead flashings and old chimney stacks are often where weather gets in first.
You receive the findings by email, ready to forward to whoever needs them. Turnaround is within 48 hours for Basic, 24–48 hours for Standard and same day for Premium.

Can I check my roof myself?
You can learn a lot from the ground. With binoculars, look for slipped or missing slates and tiles, gaps along the ridge and leaning chimneys. Never climb onto the roof to look.
It helps to keep a record: when leaks happen, ground-level photos and any past roof work. Send it with your enquiry and it will help the survey.
How it works
We’ll ask a few questions first, about the roof’s history, any leaks and past repairs. Then the inspection itself takes about one to two hours for most homes, a little longer where there are several stacks. Around Uplees, older homes can have small or awkward roof spaces, so it is useful to know whether there is a loft hatch and how easy it is to reach. We only go where it is safe.
- First we talk through the stacks, their history and any problems.
- We look at every stack from wherever it can be seen safely.
- Pots, cowls, flaunching, pointing and flashings are checked and photographed.
- We look for damp on chimney breasts and in the loft space.
- You get a written report with photos and recommendations by email.
Preparing for the visit
- Have any questions written down, so nothing gets missed
- If it is not your property yet, arrange access through the agent

Chimney pots and cowls
A loose or cracked pot can fall from height. We record their condition with photos.
Chimney breasts and the loft
Inside, chimney breasts can show damp when water gets into the stack. We check the breasts and the stack in the loft space where we can reach.
How we price chimney surveys
Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:
- Any need for thermal images or a drone flight
- The number of roofs, including extensions and garages
- Whether you choose the Basic, Standard or Premium Survey
- How big the roof is
Chimney survey starts from £150, including VAT. What you pay depends on the size and height of the roof, how it can safely be seen and the package you choose.

For landlords and managing agents

What a chimney survey looks like in Uplees
The coast is about 1 mile or less from Uplees, and places near the sea get more salt in the air and more wind than inland. Salt corrodes metal fixings and flashings, and wind lifts loose slates, tiles and ridge pieces, while driving rain finds any gap. England has around 10,000 conservation areas and about 500,000 listed buildings. If your home is listed, changes that affect its special interest need listed building consent, and in a conservation area re-roofing in different materials may need permission, so check with the council.
Homes near green spaces such as Oare Marshes can get more leaves in their gutters in autumn, and blocked gutters overflow and soak walls. The streets around a church such as Church of St Peter are frequently among the oldest in a place, and if yours is one of the older homes nearby, the nails, lead and mortar on the roof may be wearing out even where the slates or tiles look fine. Landlords with a home close to Faversham station may find that a roof report helps you deal with small faults before they turn into a call from a tenant.
Uplees is about 2 miles north of Faversham, in Kent. Surveys in Uplees work the same way as everywhere we cover: a careful look at what can be seen safely, photographs and a clear written report. Uplees is one of the towns and villages in Kent we cover. Our Canterbury page covers surveys nearby.

Why get it checked now?
Most people never get a proper look at their chimney stacks. Problems often go unnoticed until damp appears inside. A survey gives you a clear picture before that happens. Around Uplees, older homes frequently have old roof timbers, where water from a failed roof can cause rot if it’s left.
We offer three survey packages: the Basic Survey from £150, the Standard Survey from £250 and the Premium Survey from £400, with VAT included. What your roof costs depends on its size, access and what you want to find out.
Why us?
- Package prices that include VAT
- 98% of clients satisfied
- Thermal imaging and drones used where they help
- An independent view of the roof

Your questions about chimney surveys in Uplees
Do you survey roofs for landlords with property near Faversham station?
Yes. We survey roofs for landlords, letting agents and managing agents as well as owners. You can ring 07833 053749 or email us with the address and what you need.
Is Uplees within the area you cover?
Yes, Uplees is covered. We survey roofs across London and the South East, and smaller places are part of that. The journey is planned ahead, so it helps to know about access.
Is a leaning chimney dangerous?
A leaning stack should be looked at. We record the lean, the brickwork and the pointing, and recommend a structural engineer where it may be a structural concern.
Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?
Our cover is professional indemnity plus public liability, and details are available on request.
Will you go up on the roof?
Not always. Some roofs are too steep or fragile to walk on safely. Safe viewpoints, the loft and a drone where it applies let us see the rest.
Do you need to get into the loft?
Usually, if there’s one and it can be reached safely. The roof space can show things the outside can’t, such as damp timbers, staining or daylight.
Can you tell me if my roof has asbestos?
No. We don’t carry out asbestos surveys or testing. If we see materials that could contain asbestos, such as cement roof sheets or soffits on buildings from before 2000, we flag them.
