When to book a survey in Ascott Earl

Walking on some roofs does more harm than good. Old slates and clay tiles crack underfoot, and fragile sheet roofs are dangerous to walk on. A drone lets us see them closely without touching them.

Look out for signs like these:

  • Gaps where slates or tiles have gone
  • Slates or tiles shifted by high winds
  • Standing water on a flat roof
  • Debris building up in hidden gutters

For an older house near a landmark such as Church of the Holy Trinity, older roofs can be steep and hard to see from the street, which is where close-up aerial shots and thermal images help.

Choosing a roof surveyor

  • How they plan to inspect the roof safely
  • Their drone registration, if they fly one
  • Is VAT included in the price?
  • Will they check the loft as well as the outside?

What a good roof survey covers

Drone roof survey in Ascott Earl

Some roofs are hard or unsafe to reach. Our drone roof survey gets a camera close to them without anyone climbing. You see slates, ridges, chimneys, valleys and gutters in detail. Everything we find goes into a written report with photographs. It is also a good option where walking on the roof could break slates or tiles. If we can’t fly, we tell you why. If you are worried about moss and weeds taking hold up top and lifted or split lead flashings, we can find out what’s behind it.

Somewhere as small as Ascott Earl, older roofs are often steep and partly hidden by trees or outbuildings. Close-up drone photos and thermal images help show what can’t be reached safely. Weather and airspace are checked ahead of the visit, and the journey is planned beforehand. Older roofs with steep slopes and tall chimneys are where the extra view helps most.

What you get is a clear record of the roof on the day we saw it. That makes it useful now and a handy reference later.

What this survey can’t tell you

This isn’t a RICS building survey, a structural engineer’s report or an asbestos survey. Other limits to bear in mind:

  • A flight on a day when the weather isn’t safe
  • What’s under the slates, tiles or felt
  • A structural engineer’s report

If in doubt, phone 07833 053749 or email us and we will recommend the right survey before you book. The full list of what we check.

Your questions about drone roof surveys in Ascott Earl

Can you fly a drone over a roof in Ascott Earl?

That depends on where the roof is and on the weather. Before any flight, we check the Drone Safety Map for airspace restrictions, including zones around airports and prisons. The flight also waits for calm, dry weather.

Is my home in Ascott Earl listed or in a conservation area?

For listing, use Historic England’s list; for conservation areas, ask the council. It matters most if you are planning to re-roof in a different material.

How do I arrange a drone roof survey in Ascott Earl?

It’s easiest to ring 07833 053749 or drop us an email. Tell us the address and a little about the roof, and we’ll take it from there. We survey on weekdays and at weekends.

What happens after the survey?

We email you the written report with photos and recommendations. It is yours to share with a seller, insurer, roofer or managing agent, whichever applies.

Do you carry professional indemnity insurance?

We hold professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

What does a roof survey cost?

Drone roof survey starts from £400, including VAT. What you pay for your roof depends on its size, height, access and the package, and it’s agreed before booking.

Can you survey at the weekend?

We survey on any day from Monday to Sunday, during the day. Just say which days work for you.

Drones, thermal imaging and Ascott Earl roofs

West Oxfordshire’s older buildings frequently carry Cotswold stone slates, and a few villages in the county keep their thatch. Slate and clay tile are the usual coverings on older South East houses, with concrete tiles on many later estates. Older coverings on steep or tall roofs are hard to judge from below, so close-up aerial photos and thermal images help. The wider area around Ascott Earl has a long history of building, with Minster Lovell Hall about 4.7 miles south. Older roofs in the wider area can hide decades of patch repairs, so the detail matters, and any change of roofing material on a listed home needs checking with the council first.

What we do, step by step

The visit typically starts outside and finishes in the loft: first the slopes, edges and gutters from every safe viewpoint, then the roof space where it can be reached. In total, it takes about 1–2 hours at a typical home, and about three to four hours for a commercial roof. Older roofs in small places like Ascott Earl can have low, tight loft spaces, so let us know about the loft hatch and any ladder. Only areas that can be reached safely are inspected.

  1. We start by checking the airspace and any restrictions at your address.
  2. If permission is needed, we ask for it before the visit.
  3. Before the flight, we check the conditions and the take-off spot.
  4. The drone captures close-up photos of the coverings, chimneys, valleys and gutters.
  5. Your report arrives by email, with close-up photos and recommendations.

Before the survey

  • Have keys ready for side gates, garages or roof access doors
  • Move anything stored under the loft hatch
  • If you are buying, check with the agent that we can get in

What we look for on each type of roof

Valleys and parapet gutters

Hidden gutters and valleys sit out of sight. From above, we can see the linings, the joints and any debris.

Flat roofs on tall buildings

Leaks frequently start at outlets, edges and around plant. We photograph them closely, as far as the flight allows.

Checking the roof from the ground

Look up at the roof after a storm, from the ground: pieces of tile or slate on the ground, a gap in the ridge or a lifted flashing are all worth noting. Do not go up yourself.

A DIY look is useful, but it is not a survey. You won’t see flashings, valleys or the backs of chimneys properly from the ground.

What a survey costs

Prices always include VAT. What changes the price is:

  • Chimneys, valleys, parapets and other details
  • Basic, Standard or Premium
  • Whether thermal imaging or a drone is needed
  • How big the roof is

For a price for your roof in Ascott Earl, call 07833 053749 or use the contact form and tell us about the roof. We will confirm the figure before booking.

Helping us price your survey

What helps most when you contact us:

  • The property’s address and postcode
  • Access details, such as a loft hatch or a shared roof
  • Any deadline, like an exchange date
  • Why you want a survey: buying, a leak, a storm or new work

Photos help, if you have them. Pictures from the ground or a window are fine, and please don’t climb up for a closer look. To get started, call 07833 053749 or email us.
